I tend to name certain possessions.
Now, at least, I know that we are all crazy together. I am not alone.
I'm just not sure how comforting it is to know that everyone is as bonkers as I am.
I'm indifferent on the "vintage like wine" vs "new" topic. I've had too many great new hats to care much about the distinction. Old Mass Market vs New Mass Market does present discernable differences, though. (I just lack the component required to care.)
If you are looking for a hat and find...
I had an Akubra Sydney in the color described on David Morgan dot com as Regency Fawn.
The felt is very supple and while it accepts dry bashes willingly it doesn't hold them with the same gusto. Many times I could get it to hold a bash just fine, but you can't do anything aside from hanging...
I'll admit this right now: I have a go to hat for stormy weather.
BUT my fedora has a go to umbrella that it wants me to take along.
I obey its orders and we are both spared.
:D
The quality of the felt itself? Or the quality of the applied finish?
I have only owned one Akubra (the Sydney), and the finish was definitely the weakest aspect of an otherwise decent hat.
Ahh, this happens alot! One of my favorite flat caps got caught in rain while on my head and the lining became as you describe (I always take it off now if it starts raining unexpectedly [huh] ). Satin and Silk linings are prone to crinkling, waviness, etc., given the presence of water...
Every year, on forums, people go through the "I'm still wearing / should I still be wearing fur felt hats in summer?!?!?" thing and it is always amusing to read the anecdotes. Those old timers who supposedly would snicker and/or rip a hat off another man's head when he wore a certain kind of hat...

Easily.
The felt was laughably nice, and the sweatband was too die for. I mean it... tooo diieee fooorrrr! Best sweatband I've...
They collect them about as easy as regularly worn clothing in my experience. Maybe a bit less, since it is on your head. It doesn't make much difference, a lot of the time.
People seem to actually go for stuff like this sometimes. Probably not in droves, but some people.
There is a Windows application that mimics an old typewriter as well. Complete with visuals, sounds of the keys click-clacking and all.
I suppose it could be fun for an afternoon.

Does me responding by simply answering your question in the negative seem kinda uselesss?
Instead, I said no by typing these two entire lines.
BTW, I suck at Poker just because...
They have a toll-free phone number you can call:
1-888-DADSHAT
Have you tried asking about your order through telephone?
The fact that almost their entire stock is backordered has deterred me from purchasing a hat from them FOR YEARS!!!
I honestly (honestly!) hope you can at least...
Ahh, hat shrinkage: it happens. Many of the methods suggested above have worked for me in the past. So all is not lost.
I often purchase hats one size too large in order to side-step shrinkage related problems. True, it can be a bit annoying to always have to stuff some felt or something...
