    CLOVERFIELD (1-18-08)

Edward, that cracked me up -- it truly was an "LOL" moment!

    CLOVERFIELD (1-18-08)

Could you imagine if Lucas had directed that instead of Spielberg? The original print would be locked away and he'd only give us the "special edition" complete with CGI shark in all its glory. You know, to "improve" things.

    1979. Great movie.

    Amazing Masonic Fez

Sorry I missed that. I would've paid... well, more than the winning bid, that's for sure.

    Do you have a crush?

You must've forgotten to say "Long Island" when ordering.

    CLOVERFIELD (1-18-08)

Have you seen the oil rig video? Pretty clever marketing campaign, even though I wasn't that impressed by the movie itself: http://www.horror-movies.ca/horror_10473.html

    CLOVERFIELD (1-18-08)

I'll listen for that on DVD. I missed it splashing into the water at the end, too.

Nerd Alert III: Sarah Connor Chronicles

I'm bummed that the next new episode won't be until next week. Thank God Lost starts up again this week! But why ABC chose not to rerun last season is beyond me. Not all of us bought it on DVD or wants to download it, ya' know.

    Do you have a crush?

Brother, you said it! I thought perhaps it was something I said (or Hargist; you know how he gets when he drinks). I still had fun, though.

Actor Heath Ledger Is Found Dead

Brandy or Irish whiskey in a hot, decaf tea does the trick for me... On Heath Ledger: accident or suicide, this is a terrible loss. He was an obvious talent and certainly didn't come across as a train wreck like certain other celebs these days. I know he did a stint in rehab, but I'd be...

40 is the new 20. Not sure what that makes 20, though.

Hey, Where'd You Get That Hat?

I second Hollywood Hatters (on Melrose, about a block east of La Brea). I've bought 6(!) hats there in only the past 2 years.

    Suzanne Pleshette Passes

I didn't know she was sick, so this was pretty shocking to hear. Her best performance still has to be in the series finale of Newhart, in which it was revealed that Bob was dreaming the whole time he lived in Vermont. Classic TV at its best!

    CLOVERFIELD (1-18-08)

While I think it is worth seeing, it actually might work better on the small screen. Given the fact that the POV is from a consumer camcorder, that type of footage isn't usually blown up for the big screen. I'll probably watch this again on DVD... some day.

    New Star Trek

I saw the teaser tonight in front of Cloverfield and it wasn't bad. It wasn't spelled out, but I think we were supposed to interpret the footage as the Enterprise being constructed for the first time. Clips of Spock and Kirk would have been much more satisfying, of course.

    CLOVERFIELD (1-18-08)

Interesting experiment, but doesn't live up to the hype. (I felt the same way about Blair Witch.) The major problem I have with it is that I have zero interest in any of the characters. If they get killed along the way, no big loss. Come to think of it, that was Blair Witch's weakness as...

    Hat Logos

I like the aeroplane pins posted above, but hate the company logo trend. I always take them out of any new purchase. ("Always" meaning "twice.")

Nerd Alert III: Sarah Connor Chronicles

I'm surprised at the number of negative replies here. Some of you folks need to turn in your nerd cards, I fear. (Edward, I didn't read them all, but the Dark Horse comics did have some very good story arcs.)

    Favorite type of Steak

When in St. Louis, drop by Citizen Kane's for a helluva steak. The best one I ever made for myself was a $20/lb. New Zealand filet I got at Whole Foods. I marinated it for 3 days in a mixture of red wine ($2 Buck Chuck), olive oil*, soy sauce, a dash of liquid smoke and 1 packet of Chinese...

Nerd Alert III: Sarah Connor Chronicles

OK, so who's watching Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles? I think it's fantastic; could be this season's Lost. The TV version of Sarah Connor isn't as intense as Linda Hamilton's, but I really like what's going on so far. If they can avoid being as simplistic as "Terminator of the...
