from a collecting standpoint, it's really priceless. As far as making it into a wearable hat, personally I would not. As nice as it looks there would be some question as to whether it would stand up to all the handleing and such required to make it wearable if it's as old as it appears. I would...
I hope you removed the hat band prior to giving it "... a couple of good rubdowns with mink oil." as the oil will soak into the leather and can transfer to the felt. Oil based conditioners are great for leather but not so nice for felt :) They can stain.
It looks to have sold at around what one would pay for a new Borso. Not bad, but I question if it is an Alessandria model due to the wide contrasting hat band and non bound edge.
Most of my Fedora's are center dent w/long front pinch and I'm liking the Teardrop w/ a lot of "tugboat" for my taller crowned felts.
My preference for Western/Cowboy hats it's the traditional Cattlemans/Ft.Worth crease
And for my Panama's the "Cabalero" or c-Crown first with the Optimo a...
You said it well. Have a decent item, popular and in great condition, start at a decent price and get two buyers who have deep enough pockets and WANT it and sit back and let 'em fill your pockets with $s :) An e-prey seller's dream :) There's NOTHING logical about e-prey !
You'll like the Moonstone color I'm sure. Savinelli huh? I have a couple of Autographs and Gubleo d'Oro's and they are nice pipes. My main daily smokers are some old Charatan's and Dunhill's. I've not bought a new pipe in over 15 years now. Just smoke 'em. My daily blend is Dunhill's 965. Been...
The DM Squatter IS lined and has a straighter 5 1/2" open crown. Probably not as deep as you can on the taller crowned CD from OZ but still a nice one I'm sure. You might not be able to get as much "tugboat" as some like with that crease but it should do just fine. If you can, let us see some...
Gus Miller is good people. He owns Batsakes and sells a wide variety of felts as well as does custom hats. he does a lot of work with Panama's and is GREAT folks to deal with. Here's a link to an article about him and his shop:

If you are a Long Oval, you probably would want to take (or mail to ) a hatter or hat shop to have it re-blocked to fit a Long Oval head shape. Did you buy it at a brick & mortar store or from a web retailer? You might be able to return it for exchange for a LO blocked hat. I would not do...
Sounds like you are in a fortunate situation, but I would not read any more than what it is where you are at. 'Till Justin Beiber and his sort start wearing full-fledged Fedora's and twenty somethings take it up as "the" way to dress it's no more than what it is :) BTW, your Stylemaster really...
All the rains moved east now, just cloudy, windy and COLD !! So out comes the down parka and my Elosequi Basica Basque beret. MUCH, MUCH warmer than a Fedora for sure :)
It was originally and still is now sold as a "western" hat, but not as a "cowboy" hat. It was considered a "dress western" hence the name "Open Road" :)
I'm with you on that. I grew up seeing 'em with that crease mostly here in Texas, my father had one with it and it's how I would crease mine as well :) When I've seen 'em done differently they are usually on folks from other parts of the South or East. Keep the faith brother :)
You don't have to go thru the Forum to reach Falcon Park, just Google them and contact them directly. As to wool vs fur felt, fur felt is very much the BETTER material to make a quality hat from. Be sure and check the "Details" section on the Beaver Hats description and you will see they are...
I see from where you live that you probably do "bash" your hats over there. You probably run into more Aussies than Texans over there :) As for creasing /bashing your Squatter, all of mine would take a loose dry crease prior to my applying a good liberal dose of steam to the outside of the crown...
