Sam,
Here's the Glen Grey Squatter that David Morgan used to import and Bluewater used to sell. I got one over a year ago from Bluewater still had it in stock and DM had dropped it from their offerings.
It is a solid medium grey with some blue to it. It is darker than the Moonstone...
Not sure about it being a version of the Whippet, but the Sylemaster has been in the Akubra line-up since the 50's. here's a catalog page showing it back then. This was posted some time back by one of the members in OZ.
Here's a link to their website. They are now in Brookeshire, Texas which should be close to you. They say they still do hat renovation.

Sam,
From what's listed on Akubra's site, the Glen Gray looks to only be available on two models, the Snowy River and the Cattleman. It looks to be a light/mid grey not as blue as the Steel Grey the Squatter comes in. It's not listed as an available color in the CD. :(
ALL fur felt Akubra's DO NOT contain any wool. They have some beaver/rabbit blend felts but the majority of them are rabbit fur felts. I'm not familiar with ANY wool felt hats Akubra makes, and the Stylemaster is ALL fur felt.
Just got back from Mass with my mother and have worn my Father's Rittenhouse he bought in Ft. Worth back in 1948, one year after i was born :) It's still got the crease he wore it with.
Owning both, I have to say they are the same style of felt. Smooth, light and pliable, very different from the heavier version of the Imperial grade as is in my other Akubra's. All of my Stylemasters and one Sydney have responded well to rain and steam and I like the "hand" they have. Which are...
You are correct in the fawn color name thing for sure. I'm going by my recent experience looking at both in front of the front windows of DM's store in bright daylight side by side. There was a red/brown tone to my eyes in both. But then, we all can see colors differently :)
You are correct. I had the Stylemaster on my brain and miss responded :) i was up in Seattle during Christmas and went with my son-in -law to DM's shop to get him an Akubra. (he got a Acorn Fawn Stylemaster BTW and I'm wearing mine today :) ) I did get to compare the two hats and have to say...
I like mine alot. I have three of them and wear them dressed up as well as with jeans and boots. The Imperial grade felt they are made from is a smoother, lighter wieght than my other Imperial grade Akubra's. As for the ribbons on them, they are a good match to the felt color, not exact as the...
Check with Louise at John Helmer hats in Portland as they have offered the Stylemaster in what they call just Green which is what I would call a Loden Green. I got one last year from them and do like it. :)
Since we are nieghbors ( I live over in Tarrant County) I know your concern with the heat. Myself, I wear Brisa weave Cuenca panama's in the day and reserve my Montecristi's for the evening when going "out" and get all mine from Panama Bob with Tom Gomez doing the finish work on my Mont'es. For...
Many of the retailers on the net sell 'em. I got mine from David Morgan when I ordered a hat one time. Was cheap enough for me and is a good brush.

Why bother going to OZ for a hat when I can find 'em here in the states:) I got my CD from a Lounger up in NY without the "OZ wait" :) As for Greenvilles book, I had first seen one of his photos and ordered a print and then found out about the book so ordered one :)
Was your's signed by Greenville from that source on e-prey? Not a bad price for sure but it did not state if they were signed copies. I like getting a book signed by the author personally.
Mail man just dropped off my latest "Akubra" from OZ on my doorstop only this one I can't wear :) I saw some pics from a book by Greenville Turner titled "Akubra is Australian for Hat" and had to have a copy! I ordered it from him in Australia and I have to say it has some phenominal photography...
If you keep the brim at the 3.5", as you say it has, and you go with a black hat band ribbon, it will take on somewhat of a "Rabinical" look as many of the Hassidic men wear black wide brimmed Fedora's with black ribbons. This may be the look you are going for and if so stay with black. If not...
