I too have worn my Akubra's in the rain till soaked thru to where the lining is wet and have not encountered the shrinking some folks seem to experience. I have used a hat jack for almost 30 years now as well when drying out a thoughly soaked one which may help I'm sure. Turn the sweat out for...
Any folks here have a hat from Blacksheep Hat Works?
Been looking over their offerings and have found two styles that look interesting. The "Alpinemist" as the ultimate "Arkansas" style of hat. ( I am getting to like extreme tugboat in a crown now :) ) and the "Shadowhawk" for my ultimate 40's...
Why does it need to be? As long as it's Brown, has some sort of front pinch and crease that "looks like" Indy's and it says "Indiana Jones" somewhere on it, what more does a person need? Besides, these hat co's. paid big bucks for that "license" so it's gotta be correct :)
The original hat was "the Poet" model made by Herbert Johnson in London and was bought at Swane, Addney & Brigg in London.

I wear a 7 3/8 (59) and my CD is that size and has "sized down" to fit perfectly. From what I have experienced and read here, order your hat size and they will be just a bit big but will "size down" with wear and rain.
Here's my Mid-Brown CD showing it's flanging as is done by the factory. My Bushman and all my Squatters are as this one is. How much "curl" do you need ?
OK, then we need to get all the threads that DO NOT deal ONLY with "golden era" hats off here and ONLY discuss them. No more modern Western, Fedora, Aussie, Flat cap, Berets etc. That would surely get rid of "those" folks who are not in line with the "proper" viewpoint . Sounds like a good idea :)
As for Baseball caps, I agree that they belong on Baseball players and Bubba's but to limit EVERYTHING to JUST the "vintage or golden era" would remove one of the best attributes of this Forum, it's egalitarianism which makes it an informative place to learn and interact about HATS :) Besides...
Giving what you said, the same could be said for Akubra and other modern production felt hats, western, Aussie style, Stingy's etc. If we only do them (vintage/golden era) it would really limit what was seen on this Forum :)
From the oil/sweat stain on the chin strap looks like it was a DI's cover, either Marines or Army as they wore the chin strap at the back of the neck. ( at least mine did back in basic :) ) , But then he might have been an officer, either way it's a nice one :)
