About mid 1950's Stetson 4X Beaver Quality with embroidered Last Drop liner. Has 3 inch brim and 5 1/2 inch open crown. For whatever reason, these hats are very scarcely seen. I've found 3 others on the Lounge, the most recent of this style dating to 1962 having the black rectangular size tag...
Well, I said this liner was for hats of $20 and up. Maybe I should have said it was for higher priced hats. I can't swear it wasn't ever used early on for $15 hats. But in my mind I always associate it with $20 and higher, since that's what you usually see.
1950's Dobbs Gay Prince, dark blue. Has 2 3/4 inch brim and 5 3/4 inch open crown. This was a $20 hat when new. The sweatband doesn't say "Dobbs Twenty", but the type of liner in this hat was only put in hats costing $20 or more.
G W Alexander hat. 4 inch brim and 5 1/2 inch open crown. Has no mfg tag, so difficult to date. Maybe 1950's? It is stamped "Hub Hubbell Rodeo Hats". He toured around the Country performing and maybe sold these hats on the side? This might be one of those Alexander Circle A hats.
When I started collecting hats 2 years ago, I had absolutely zero interest in Western or cowboy hats, just was interested in city hats and thought a brim more than 3 inches was pointless. Now I can't get enough of the big hats. Still love the city hats, though.
Cavanagh with 2 1/2 inch brim and 5 inch open crown. Made sometime after the 60's is all I know. Will gift it to brother-in-law. Has nice felt for a more recent hat.
Another Geo. W Alexander hat that's about to ship to me. Both of these 2 hats look about the same age, offhand, but I can't guess a date til I have them in hand. This hat is associated with the famous rodeo star Hub Hubbell.
PS- I thought that since this was a Presentation hat and from the high-end store Neiman Marcus, that there might be a chance this was a high-end hat, maybe a Forty quality or better. But I have a 50's Western Dobbs Forty and the Presentation hat doesn't approach the quality of my Dobbs Forty.
A 1953 Presentation hat, made either by Dobbs or Knox. I can about make a case for each. 2 3/4 inch bound brim and 5 1/2 inch open crown. The hat was sold by Neiman Marcus. The sweatband has no stamp or printing to identify the hat. The Presentation note is the only thing on the sweatband. The...
Bought this hat today. Not sure of the maker but might be Resistol because the sweatband has the Self Conforming patent stamp. The liner says TAD and sweatband says Langrock. I googled that name and it's the store name. Looks like a 50's hat. Maybe TAD is the name of the hat's owner?
