My boss was nice enough to bring back a couple of goodies for me from a recent trip to Paris. The stretcher will definitely be handy to have and the block is at least an interesting piece to have on a shelf. Do you all think the block is for ladies hats or maybe a traditional french flat cap or...
Very cool stuff. Has anyone ever run across any good drawings of the blowing machines that separate the coarse hair and dirt from the fine fur? I understand the basic concept but I'm just curious to see specifics on how they work.
I have a variable speed hat spinner that I made that can be used for pouncing and ironing hat crowns. Max speed is 270 RPM. It's made to be mounted into a cutout in a bench or tabletop. Made to work with most hat block types. Feel free to message me with any questions. The cost is $950 plus...
I noticed that also. Who are some other Tonak suppliers that you know of? I wouldn't be surprised if all of the other suppliers have gone up that much as well but it's worth checking
Yeah, I have seen a wide variation of hole sizes as well on old blocks. The 7/8" pin will work for my needs but it could be easily made a smaller diameter with sleeves that slide over the pin to bump it up to the larger sizes.
It's for pouncing the crown. It can also be used with a hand iron when it's slowed down. I use a small sealing iron and I've been pretty happy with the results. I'm hoping to make a crown iron setup to go with it that mounts to the bench at some point. You can see these spinners in use in the...
Thanks. It's a 110v 1/3 hp variable speed motor with gear reduction that maxes out a little under 300 rpm if I'm remembering right. It's at my shop and I'm at home now but I think the footprint is around 9" x 11". I'm keeping this first one but I'm hoping to get a handful together soon to sell...
Thanks. It seems like most of the new ones I have seen are 1" or just over. A few of the vintage ones that I have are also 1" and one is 3/4"ish but wallowed out pretty good so it's around 7/8" now. I'm thinking maybe 3/4" was a common size also from some pictures I've seen.
I appreciate the reply. I know that the few block makers out there today seem to be pretty flexible with custom features. I'm wondering as far as all of the old factory made hat blocks out there if there was one or two standard hole sizes or if it varies between the different makers? I'd like to...
