I don't have the hat to look for a tag. It's just from an online photo. Were those sweatbands that have somewhat of a diamond texture used during any particular timeframe that anyone knows of?
Thanks for the additional explanation. I will plan on sticking with hand pouncing but just out of curiosity, what grit would you consider "super fine" in case I ever find myself wanting to practice on a expendable felt? Also, what is the advantage of "fractionated" coconut oil vs regular. Thanks...
Thank you for the reply. I have had luck evening out mottling by luring as well. I have only ever used millinery warehouse rabbit felts so I'd be curious to work with felts from other sources. Not that it's easy to find them in stock anywhere these days.
I have a question about pouncing. In several videos I've seen including one with Art Fawcett and one with Nathaniel Funmaker they go to town with an electric sander when pouncing. Nathaniel even mentions reducing the thickness of the felt. In my experience it doesn't take much to over pounce a...
Here's one that was given to me by my French great grandmother that had belonged to my great grandfather. Not sure how old it is but supposedly it was his go-to headwear.
Thanks. I appreciate the kind words. The rounding jack seems to do the job just fine and it's about as simple as it could get. I figure I can just add holes for different brim sizes and if they're staggered a bit I could still have fairly close increments.
I like the hat you just finished too...
Got the sweatband in last night. I won't show any close ups because my stitching is about as straight as Elton John. I was getting the hang of it towards the end though and I know it'll do it's job for this hat. Thankfully I'm getting very close to finishing the hat since it's almost Christmas...
Thanks, that is helpful. I'll have to try to find that other thread too. I definitely need to pick up a zig-zag capable sewing machine if I'm going to be doing much of this. Do you sew through the vinyl tape?
Sounds good. Does anyone know of any good videos that show the process? I know I saw a decent one at some point but I can't find it now. Also, how much longer does the reed want to be than the sweatband? I got it sewn up already but it was a real pain doing it.
