LINK #3 I found after a lounge member purchased a hat from them and posted the photos- wanted to check out the...
few possibilities
1) I saw a similar hat sold on millerhats.com a few years back- i do not see it on their site right now.
it was a light brown leather top with a dark brown or black bill..not identical but similar.
2) I can't tell how distressed the hat is, but it could be a take on...
my thoughts too
I was wondering if you paid up front or not as well. but regardless of that- you are a customer and entitled to know whats going on.
you are obligated to call and bug him.
good luck
unfamiliar
i am not very familiar at all with these velour hats of the 20s etc.
how common was this style?
can someone elaborate or provide a good reference?
history
do we know any family history of this hat?
who sold it exactly, how the seller got hold of it and when etc?
also location may be helpful as well, and i dont mean the seller's location, i mean from where he obtained it.
..what i may do is try to find old maps of philly (online...
yes true
...but i cant find any record of roelofs in philly.
i haven't really looked into this, but if this was a marriage thing, maybe a merger of sorts just happened over the long term eventually giving way to the more dominant stetson name w/o any legal issues.
was roelofs a public...
thought
speaking of time capsules... philly was a much more busy city in past. i was just thinking that maybe after the merger of stetson and roelofs they had left over inventory...
A) the inventory was used at a location elsewhere to make the hat. meaning that a local hatter put it...

I love that hat.

oh btw, if you do decide to buy one, don't fear the open crown option, i went for it- just as easy as they...

dont forget the akubras: federation, stylemaster, squatter.
christys :adventurer
and maybe the stetson nostalgia (although the crown isnt so high on this one)
as for custom. you have art fawcett, penman, and mary-ann of couture creations (she is in pennsylvania outside philly) i...
you arent alone
I ordered mine thru ascot top hats. christys delayed his orders and help up all of his work , and my hat!
Christy's should get their act together.
[tips hat]
thanks for the offer...
well i didn't order from them- anyone having difficulties ought to look into it. perhaps the server was down or something.
hm
weird, i recently signed up for the site and emailed them (steve i suppose) a few questions on deliver/shipping chargers and haven't heard a response in weeks (2 or 3).
they have a few email addresses listed try all of them- then see what happens.
here

christys adventurer gets a good review for meeting the criteria of an indy hat...but they are also not known to be the toughest of hats....adventure built and penman are the more expensive ones and known to be tough.
the akubra fed is also decent-...
so where does this leave us now?
i don't understand how the court papers can say roelofs is one of the largest hat manufacturers [in the world] and yet no info is readily available. granted, there are a number of hatters who vanished over the years....but i would at lest expect something of...
