24" p2p sierra sportswear. I would nab this if it were an inch longer in the body and two in the sleeves. Love the french cuffs. BIN $400

Imagine a heavy jacket that you can pinch at each armpit and get .5 inches of leather between your fingers. It’s a very slim, t-shirt only fit, but might be what you are after. I don’t believe it has 19” shoulders so I would ask him to remeasure from seam to seam. The length sounds about right for you, but compare to a jacket that you own
Thanks for your help again, Pandemic! I think I would like to be able to wear a light sweater under it, too--so maybe too small? I'll ask for better pictures with measurements, too.

I would not go for this personally without asking for better photos unless $350 were not a lot of money to me. The chest measurement provided might be 20 inches, but I can't be sure from that photo. It actually looks more like 20.5. That photo is too inexact for my taste and besides that, pit-to-pit measurements are normally taken on the outside of the jacket, which takes into account the leather density.

So even if this interior measurement photo is right, the chest might be more like 42 inches when measured in the standard manner, which I would think is much too big for what you describe as your desired fit.
Thank you for this thoughtful reply. I will definitely ask for better pics and measurements. More generally speaking--assuming it fits, for example--would this be a good starter jacket, in your view?

Yes, I do believe it would be a good starter jacket. Steerhide is a good choice for a first jacket and CXL steer has a solid reputation.

However, given your stated body measurements, I believe this jacket will swallow you up. It has 24 inch sleeves with open cuffs (no way to stop them at the wrists) - those would be too long for me (depending on the shoulder width) and I am two inches taller than you. For your first jacket, try to get one that fits you very well.

To do this, measure a jacket you already have that you really really like and look for similar measurements.

Also, even though shipping and tariff charges will be around $50 from Japan, Japan has tons of jackets for sale on eBay in the 34 and 36 sizes and they are usually pretty darn cheap. Meaning, this $350 jacket is not your only option. Lots of CXL steerhide options from Aero coming out of Japan and lots of really great smaller-sized Vansons and Schotts.

Not sure if this helps but it's what I'm thinking for you. Good luck!

1930s Schott in horsehide. I don't recall seeing a 30s Schott for sale.

Here it is

A buddy of mine is communicating with the seller via another channel and he said he’d take around $1000 for it. Not sure why he decided to jack up the price so much for the eBay listing. I guess he’s just throwing it out and seeing if it sticks. Shame about the shoulder seam tear. Other than that I do think the cut of this one isn’t great, looks very long, almost a coat rather than a jacket

Hi Lost Cowboy! I'm sorry for my slow reply (work took over these last couple of days)--your response here is incredibly helpful! I appreciate knowing that this jacket might be a good first jacket. I also appreciate your insights about the size. I would not have expected that a size 36 might be too big!

I measured by shoulders--I think I came to 19" across (if I did the measurement correctly). And for my arms, I was 24" to my wrist bone.

I will look at more jackets in the classifieds here and on ebay. I guess I need to be careful about what a marked size is in real life!

Thanks again for your help!

I am pretty sure I've seen jackets with that label and ALSO a manufacturer label. I think that store used to add their own to other brands' jackets to show that's where it was sold. That store has been around at least since the 1980s
