I think different people like different things and as they go discovering the hobby their taste evolve and change as well. Are you new to leather jackets or have you been researching it enthusiastically for a while. What models do you like?
I am currently in a curious phase about various leather clothing brands, and for this reason, I have purchased many legendary items, such as Schott 641, Vanson Model F, HLL, Aero, and so on. I also went to RRL to try on their 1930 models.

I don't understand this need to make huge overarching statements about brands.

high large is x, y, z

like now we have the high large gospel and we shall be informed forever

our jackets are the same maker. they are very different. brands do different production runs, use different batches of leather, etc. One jacket qualifies you to talk about one jacket.

the raw edges I can see on this one are all thicker than a quarter, but it isn't stiff at all like cxl for example.

You are right. All my analysis is solely based on this single product in my hand.

I have tried on quite a few shinki leather garments in the store, and I find that the relatively dry texture of these leathers is quite noticeable.

I don’t know about that.

I did enjoy the read. It’s not a bad approach, taking a single garment and comparing it to other items in depth.
This can then spark discussion (e.g. properties of Shinki tanned leather).

Only thing I was irritated was the derailed discussion about the proper use of AI. The OP reads somewhat odd, but I’d rather have somebody with limited language skills contribute in a meaningful way (and I DO think it’s a good contribution) than trying to put up AI rules that nobody can enforce in the first place.

Actually anecdotally, I follow your observation in general.

There are oil-tanned Shinki leathers that have a “moist” hand (c.f. the brown variant David Himel uses or the “Pomyhide” Greg Fields had for some time), but all leather RMC or FW uses is pretty “dry” to the hand.

Of course, @cbez is totally right in that there are probably more than a dozen different leather variants at Shinki tannery.
Unlike Horween, Shinki doesn’t really disclose the exact formulas by identifying dedicated products which makes it hard (at least for me), to pin down the differences other than by handling as many jackets as possible.

Yes, I will talk from two aspects. Firstly, I haven't felt dry touch from Shinki. Secondly, someone has already found a leather supplier for mainline products with an FCL of 1.8mm or more, which is Himeji Leather factory.

After dropping 2300$ on a fine creak Leon custom and immediately realizing it is subpar leather and fits like total *** I will say I would not group any reputable brand next to the brand fine creek. I’m sorry but maybe my opinion is biased but my personal experience with fine creek was terrible patterns, terrible leather, lots of marketing hype. I could have bought a really nice RMC, aero, field, Vanson, etc etc etc for the same or less with far better quality.
Also my fine creek Leon which I was thankfully able to sell did not use Shinki. I followed the fine creek brand develop and at some point started using some Shinki but not all their jackets use Shinki.
Shinki can be super variable. My J24L Shinki is hard and dry and took years to soften. My Schott Shinki cafe racer is soft and almost wet feeling. I think they treat it with casein I think I read that somewhere. But I’d stay away from high large unless I personally got to try it on and felt it fit really great. The patterns on the fine creek jackets were really bad. Not fountain head bad but pretty frikkin bad.

So what do you guys think; do you want me to delete Leather and Metal's posts as too AI for our forum, or do you want me to leave them up? At first I was going to delete the initial post, then I got distracted.

After "his" responses, I am inclined to leave them up, but this is your forum. I will accede to your wishes.

AI is here to stay, and we should learn to live with it. So let it be.

I appreciate OP's contribution, written with the help of AI or not. I had the feeling that his reasoning was genuine (non-AI) which is what counts for me. We should welcome new contributors to TFL, regardless of their writing style..

You might have been deceived by the fcl overseas version. Chinese players have long discovered that fcl has many agents in China, who sell a lot of fcl co's duplicate products and overseas versions of Japan's fcl mainline products. God knows how poor the quality is. Therefore, at present, Chinese enthusiasts tend to prefer fcl mainline products and the high large leathers product line, which are worth buying. However, considering that you bought the Leon style, you might have purchased the overseas version. The Leon style of fcl in Japan has received quite good reviews.

If AI ever becomes as intelligent as I am, that's what you should be worried about, hhhhhhh

The touch of Shinki products is not always dry, but the star products from Shinki, such as the Freewheelers, feel dry to me. This wrong conclusion may be due to my limited exposure to Shinki products, or perhaps it's because the unique dry feel of Shinki has left a deep impression on me.

This thread has the potential to bring some interesting viewpoints, I'd keep it if it were down to me

Getting back to Shinki, they are known for not being consistent with their leather deliveries even within a single batch, so I would not give any general description of their leather as ti is so variable. When it comes to FCL, their 2mm jackets, I saw several ones, in London at an official dealer and several shops in Tokyo, none was near 2mm in thickness - which is ok as long as you don't advertise it falsely as they did. FCL relies too much on tricky marketing from what we have seen over the years.

And there is no such thing as the "best leather" or the "best maker".

is it that specific jackets are advertised as 2mm and not, or that everyone somehow expects that from every fc jacket?

They had a model that was advertised as 2mm, forgot what they called it. And the ones I handled in the shops were nowhere near that thickness.

Edit: it might have been this one, notice the prominent 2mm mentioned in the title

curious how people verify. mine does not feel particularly thick and beefy since it is tanned less densely. my fidelity was thinner, but felt heavier due to wax and oil stuffing.
