Help me choose some aero options!

Hello! I’m looking to buy an aero for my 25th birthday. This will be my second leather jacket, paired with a lightweight Schott 582, so the idea is to be able to work in a different range of temperatures. In other words, better for cold weather, but still 3-season viable.

I’m back and forth on a lot of options. The main thing I’ve actually chosen is I want Black CXSH. I could be convinced for Cordovan CXSH, but I think I want black before I choose a more fun color.

So here’s my main dilemmas:
HWM vs PWHM (maybe vs half belts).
I have a 28” waist and around a 36” chest if I want a slimmer fit on a jacket. And I’m 5’7”. I think the shorter and boxier cut of the HWM will highlight and broaden the shoulders better, and maybe look more trim at the waist due to its more crop cut. But PWHM seems to be suggested for slim, athletic builds, and I know you can get the torso height altered. Any thoughts? I want to be able to layer while still highlighting my build. Not baggy, but “relaxed” is okay, but I’m really looking for “structured and comfortable”

Caramel vs Brown vs Olive stitching:
Does anyone have any pictures of these stitching on black? I think caramel is risky of a choice, but I’m not sure. I just want the stitches to be visible, somewhat interesting, but not “contrast-stitching” territory.

Quilted vs Troy Blankets vs Moleskin
I’m wondering about the feel and durability of these? I’m probably not going to choose Troy Blankets because I don’t think it looks that nice, but if it’s a really nice material feel, I could be convinced. I was also wondering if anyone had photos of the Petrol Blue quilted lining that TB offers or any other photos of quilted lining. Can anyone speak to the warmth, quality, feel, and durability of these linings?

Thanks everyone for reading and answering my questions! My birthday is not until November, but I plan to spend until August thinking about all of these options to make sure I get the perfect one!

HWM vs PWHM
What are the arguments against a short PHWM? Personally, I think that the normal HWM suits stocky types better than slim ones. And as already mentioned, cropped also works with the PHWM.
I'm definitely Team PHWM. ;)

Caramel vs Brown vs Olive stitching:
I have olive and brown with my black jackets. I actually prefer brown a little more. I considered caramel at one point, but I was concerned that it would be too conspicuous in the long run. But brown is good and subtly softens the harsh tone of black.

Quilted vs Troy Blankets vs Moleskin
I have moleskin and I like it. But it's not as warm as I thought it would be. I think if you want something warm, quilted is the way to go. Although I would try corduroy for my next jacket.

I also have wool tartan, cotton drill, and satin. Of the three, I find satin the most comfortable to wear. In terms of warmth, there's not really any difference between them. Of course, everyone may see it differently.

Thanks Mr. Proper. Always very helpful, basically THE highwayMAN.
1) No arguments against cropped PHWM! I just understood that the stock pattern for HWM came more cropped, so I was thinking maybe cropped may be better suited for the pattern that was meant to be more cropped. I guess my main concern is my height. Your build is much longer, and I was thinking maybe a boxier fit may look more proportional on a shorter guy! I’ve seen some PHWM that kinda brings in the shoulders too much, and takes away from a V-taper look. So, my main priority is to accentuate a broad shoulders, slim waist, type look on a short torso.

2) yeah brown is definitely the safest option. If I don’t see any examples of caramel by the time I start ordering, I’ll definitely go brown.

3) I think the quilted is made of “cotton sateen” which I think is also the same material of the satin you’re referring to. If so, hopefully that means added comfort!

Since I don't have a normal HWM myself, I can only speak from the pictures I've seen so far. And I would assume that the desired V shape is more likely to be achieved with the PHWM than with the boxy HWM. But maybe I'm wrong. I'm sure a few others with HWM experience will share their knowledge.

Yeah I’m sure it’s different for different people too. I’ve seen HWM look slimmer on a slimmer dude and PWHM look stockier on a stocky dude. Like below. Black is classic and brown is premier.

And from this thread:
Post in thread 'Aero zip sleeve Highwayman Black CXL FQHH, Shoulder Gussets'
https://www.thefedoralounge.com/thr...-cxl-fqhh-shoulder-gussets.83433/post-1994691

It looks like the shoulders are squeezed in too much in the PWHM, instead of looking broader. But on different body types, I’ve seen the reverse be true, like this case:
Post in thread 'Aero linings'

Might have to try them both on… do you know if Thurston bros would send a fit jacket for two different models?

When you are wearing the jacket with the wide trousers you completely eliminate any visual sense of having a distinct taper from your shoulders to your lower body. The pants at your hips are wider than your shoulders, giving you an A shape rather than a V shape. The 2nd jacket with the white pants looks sharp. I also like the darker color jacket on you better. You look washed out wearing the rust color. I do love the rust color jacket. A cream color or green shirt would give you a lot better contrasting style with the rust jacket.

I'm no expert. But we have a similar build. I'm 5ft 8, 37 inch chest and 29 inch waist. I chose the classic Highwayman cut and I think it works for me. If you've got an athletic frame I think a well fitting regular Highwayman can give a nice masculine V taper.

Yeah pretty similar build. I’m thinking of getting a size 36, back length 23.5, sleeve length 23.75, increase the shoulder to 19” and then taper the hem by 4”

Mine was a 36 too, although I don't remember the rest of my measurements off hand. I've got a grand total of 1 shot of the jacket on me, but maybe it will give you some idea of how it might sit on you?

Wow it looks great on you! It’d be nice if you were able to get the measurements because it looks really good on you. I’m wondering if I’m overdoing it with increasing the shoulder from 18” to 19”. All of my jackets are 18.2”-18.5” but they’re not real leather so it’s more flexible. I don’t mind an oversized fit, especially once it breaks in and starts to get the draping effect, so that’s why I’m leaning towards 19”

I had a look through my old order emails with Aero to see if I could pull up some measurements. As mentioned its a size 36 inch, sleeve length 25 inch with a back length of 23.5 inches.

I'll try and measure the shoulder and hem tomorrow, hopefully that will help.

That would be very helpful! How do you feel about the sleeve length? Would you go 1” shorter?

Took some measurements this morning. Shoulder to shoulder is 18 inches, pit to pit around 20 inches. The hem was a little tricky to measure but it's 19 inches.

I'm glad I took Aeros advice to go with a 25 inch sleeve (I was going to go shorter), but with the length rising over time as the sleeves ripple 25 inch was the right call for me. I can move my arms without the sleeves hiking up and feeling too short.

Sleeve falls a little past my wrist joint in its natural position.
