OK, you do you. Suggest that without a decent hat and possibly a decent scarf to insulate your neck, you are going at things at a serious disadvantage in retaining body heat. Possibly needless cost/hassle in buying a new garment.

Living in a "Navy town", Newport, RI, it was common to see Enlisted "Swabbies" wearing scarves with their Pea-Coats, since fully buttoning them "up to the top" was a hassle best avoided. Same thing with Officers wearing similar "Bridge Coats".

All of them had hats of some sort in cold weather.

“All of them had hats of some sort in cold weather.”

Yes, but they didn’t work in an office and likely had a shaved head (or close to it).

I’d definitely recommend the Buzz Rickson’s Pea coat even if it’s not 100% wool. The melton is super heavy and very warm. I had one and wore it in some pretty cold temps in Europe and it kept me incredibly warm. The corduroy chest pockets are a life saver for the hands. Image below. From memory it was slightly heavier than a McCoys pea coat as I was torn between the two. Only sold it because I needed a bigger size.

Another option worth considering is Timeworn Clothing’s melton pea coat they released this season. Not sure how heavy it is but imagine the quality is next level and it would be 100% wool - image from the catalogue below…

I have a Joe McCoy 4 pocket pea coat with leather trim which is a pretty light pea coat and no where near as heavy weight as the BR pea is. Pic below for ref in case you come across it in your search.

I did swap my BR pea coat for the below At Last & Co version which is a similar weight to the BR one. It was slightly longer in the body as it was a different pea coat style. They do come up on Mercari quite often so it is worth looking. Pic below..

It might also be worth checking out Drake’s London. I think they have a pea coat this season. Not sure they’ll beat the BR pea for warmth.

I own the iron snail mammoth jacket and it's by far the warmest coat I tried (I guess the heat straps deck jacket I ordered will change that but still).
It's 37oz at the thinnest point and 65 oz at the thickest, 100% wool and it's made in the us

That is a very interesting jacket, not something I could ever afford but it's definitely interesting.

I ended up buying the BR14146 (size 38). It looks good (better than my old J.Crew), but I was expecting it to be heavier. (It doesn't weigh much more than my J.Crew.) I don't expect it to be much (if any) warmer, either... I'll still be wearing a down vest or down sweater underneath. I decided this will be my fall/light winter jacket, and I'm going to get a parka (probably N-3B) for frigid days. (I have an expensive Mountain Hardwear puffer that's pretty old, but it doesn't fit great, and I don't like puffers... getting rid of that.)

I can't believe how much shipping was... $168! I've used Buyee a few times before, but shipping was never so expensive. Honestly, if I knew that before I bought it, I might not have.:)

I grew up from a kid in a north east coast North sea city, port also always lots of ships, sailors, seamen always had a hat with a wool coat, and a scarf, makes sense
