Looking for heavyweight wool peacoat-like jacket with 4 pockets

Vintage peacoats won’t work for me because they only have 2 pockets (from what I’ve seen). Also, I’m only 5’7, 145 lbs, so most vintage stuff is too big/boxy for me. (I looked for kersey wool, with no luck.) I definitely want slash pockets and extra pockets for gloves and my phone.

The front runner is Buzz Rickson’s BR14146, it’s 36oz wool, but only 90%. These are plentiful in my size (probably 38).

Next is The Real McCoy’s Double Diamond Railroad Coat. They don’t mention the wool weight, but people say it’s really heavy. These are harder to find and the sizing measurements are inconsistent (not sure if I’m a 36 or 38). Plus, it’s black, and I prefer blue. But I really like how it looks.

I can’t find anything else… I’m not interested in 20% poly/nylon coats. Price range… I’d prefer to be under $1k, but don’t mind paying far quality (and not made in China). I assume fashion brands won’t be heavy enough- if the wool weight isn’t mentioned, I assume it’s not heavy.

Obviously, I don’t care about historical accuracy. I’d even go for single-breasted, but don’t want anything down to my knees. Am I missing anything?

I forgot to mention I tried a Schott 782 a while ago and didn’t like it. Can’t remember why- might have been the fit.

If you're okay with the Filson mack style I would look at Weatherwool's AAJ jacket, probably the nicest wool I've felt. https://weatherwool.com/products/all-around-jacket
I’ve only heard good things about WW, and have looked to buy stuff in the past, but they never have anything in my size. I’m not wild about the shirt-looking jackets, though. I’m wearing this to work (dress shirt and pants). Thanks, though.

Yes. The collar is too goofy.
The ad is just the regular mac. Good to about 40f. Buy a dehen cardigan to layer under for colder temps.
I’m looking for the heaviest wool I can find, because this will be my winter coat.

I’m in NYC, but I live by the ocean where it’s always WAY colder than the city. Plus, I run a lot colder than the average person.

If all that's the case, then (although I highly dislike that they seem to fast be becoming a "fashion forward company") a true Canada Goose Down coat may be the best option for you - or something similar from North Face, Mountain Hard Ware, etc. Sometimes it's more important to stay warm that look stylish.

And if you are really going to be outside in your climate for long periods of time, consider a pair of these under your coat - and you will indeed stay warm! https://www.carhartt.com/product/10...erall---relaxed-fit---4-extreme-warmth-rating

And their heaviest coats cost a faction of what has been discussed here and also does a great job too:

I have a big Mountain Hardwear down jacket, but won’t wear that to the office.

Today’s temp was 35 and the windchill was 20. It gets a LOT colder than that, but this is about my comfort limit with my current system (an old J Crew University jacket- when they were 100% wool and heavier, plus a down vest, zipped up).

My commute consists of walking a few blocks and waiting for a bus- this is the worst part of the trip because it’s windy where I live. After the bus ride, I walk just under a mile to my office.

If the Buzz Rickson peacoat is warmer than my current wool coat, I’d probably be ok. I’m sure I’d still need to add a vest or down sweater (if the sleeves fit) on really cold days. I imagine the Filson with the shearling collar would be fine on its own, which appeals to me.

I agree that the collar on the Filson wool packet coat is a bit goofy, but I love everything about that coat. I’ve had my eye on one for at least 10 years now, and I remember I didn’t buy it because I thought it was too expensive when it was $600. Wishing I bought one back then because now the damn thing cost $1200...

Yeah, it's tough paying that much more for something when you know it's the same product. I found some used ones in my size, but I'm not wild about the colors, unfortunately.

Weatherwool has a peacoat made out of 100% rambouillet merino wool and it's made in the US.
I don't own this specific model but I own several other products and they are extremely well built and the wool is some of the highest quality available

Gustin are floating a 4 pocket wool field jacket at the moment. I don't know if it's worth a look but it's certainly a 4 pocket jacket.

https://www.weargustin.com/store/jackets-charcoal-wool-field-jacket

I've never had anything from Gustin, so this isn't a recommendation.

I'm not a fan of Gustin. Also, I want slash pockets and glove pockets- I know, it's probably silly, but that's what I'm used to (and like). Also, that thing is only 17oz (and not even 100% wool). That is more like a spring/fall jacket, I assume.
Thanks, though.

You mention gloves, but no mention of appropriate hat or neck scarf. Adding both might add considerable warmth at scant cost. A surprising amount of body heat is lost through the head and neck. If already done, then disregard.

No scarf or hat… I’m hoping the jacket collar (buttoned together) will cover my neck… shearling preferred! Currently, my down vest does an ok job of keeping in body heat.
I can’t do a hat… my hair will be a mess. I wear wool hats when I’m not going into the office, though.
