For your enjoyment, a photo retrospective: A lost love, my beloved Schott Perfecto 519

As a fellow motorcyclist, ever since I picked up some armoured underwear (tops and bottoms) it has given me much more flexibility with the 'normal' wardrobe. Especially given my work has a casual dress code so 90% of the time I am in denim, boots and whatever jacket is appropriate for the weather. Today its:

Iron heat 25oz 634s
Bradley Mountain 4 seasons waxed cabin jacket
Red Wing 2929 chelseas modified with a Vibram Morflex sole

Ah, thanks. Nothing quite like the deep shine of FQHH. Looks to be one of the (slightly) thinner hides which should translate into enhanced wearability in the long term.

It's true that compared to my other CXL FQHH jackets, this one was the easiest to break in. It's thinner than the others, quickly revealing a lot of grain and character in the leather. Some other CXL jackets are really very difficult to break in.

Thought I'd share the breaking in process of this new schott 568 Vandals.
Not much of a break in given the type of leather, waxy pebbled cowhide kind of already broken in.
As opposed to my steerhide Perfecto's that are a little stiffer and have a little extra coating on

them.

I will say that it reminds me so much of my old 519 that I've since given away in the way it drapes and how it after a year will look like I've been living in it for a decade

The whole experience is very different from some of the other leathers, much more casual a relationship with the jacket without needing to really look at the break in process as part of the deal over the first couple years of ownership
A much more relaxed, no agenda no goals kind of thing

And similar to the 519 this jacket gets looks and compliments on day one and the added belt only brings more curiosity for its retro vibe

Feels like a return to my first Schott jacket, back when all I knew of the company was this particular type of leather and loved it.

Though it's no longer the same sort of thing (I prefer my 613 or 118 as my serious leather for both riding and hanging out), this jacket sends me back.
Back to when I started out with this particular company and also back in time through the movie The Bikeriders.

I completely forgot that movie, The Bikeriders, ever existed! I saw a reference to the Vandals jacket but thought it's related to the Springsteen movie... But right, there was that movie, too, for which Schott released merch as well. It is absolutely amazing how these new movies just phase out of existence.

There's literally millions of movies coming and going every year. The Bikeriders wasn't in my radar and neither its plot nor its critic reception are attractive enough for me to put in the time to watch it. I like Tom Hardy, but him alone isn't enough to watch it. "Nice jackets are in this movie" is a tough sell.

Same with the Springsteen movie, but without Tom Hardy.
