I’ve heard that if you spritz the hat with some rum after applying the coconut the flies are much happier.

I also tried John’s @moehawk suggestion and used liquified coconut oil on the hat to restore its flexibility and allow for shaping. It worked well and the coconut scent is very mild and quite pleasant. Of course I have been humming Jimmy Buffett songs all day....

Glad that the coconut treatment worked. One thing I did notice after using it on that old optimo-blocked Adam was that after a few months the oil got a faint rancid aroma that got a little stronger after wearing it a few hours. I got similar straw-rejuvinating results on another dry straw from an application of vegetable glycerin without the odor problems.

My latest straw Stagecoach. 4” brim and 5 3/4” crown as creased! I stripped off the macrame and put on a pug.

Do any of you find that your Stagecoach felts are much lighter in weight than other westerns? A Stagecoach I recently picked up with a 4" brim and 7" crown only weighs 209 grams. The felt is very thin; like-new and still stiff as a board. I was surprised the first time I picked it up. I thought that for a 10-gallon hat it would be much, much heavier!

Looks like it's been a while since anyone posted in here, so please allow me. Here's a Butterfield Express that I scored off the Bay last month. I'm leaving it stock, except for having flattened out the brim a little bit. It's going into my Cowboy Action Shooting stable.

Hard to beat a Stagecoach, or any Resistol Western for that matter. They're my favorite Westerns to work with.

Took possession of another one today: a Timber Creek, in Granite Grey. 3 & 5/8 x 5 & 3/4. Someone may have trimmed the brim in the past, because these were advertised as 4". The crown, open, IS the full advertised 7 inches. Not sure what my plans are for this one, other than getting rid of the hideous woven band. But whether it becomes a CAS hat for shooting, or just a daily-wear hat, it's certain to draw attention.

Not a Resistol, but it's still a Stagecoach with the Knox branding. The open crown on this is 7 inches tall with a 4 1/2 inch brim width. This is one that I refurbished and restored a couple of years ago. Dobbs also had the Stagecoach line. All three were probably owned by the same hat company at one time.

Before and After pics: It now sports a Montana pinch with a mule kick in the back. I also reshaped the brim with a slight cowboy curl. This is the biggest hat I own.

Gentlemen, I come before you here today full of both pride, and humility. Pride that I get to show off my newest Stagecoach acquisition. This is the most IMMACULATE 2nd-hand hat that I have ever seen, much less owned. The felt, the crease, the ribbon, the headband, all are pristine. I would swear this hat just came off the factory floor, and into its box, this morning. If this hat has spent even five minutes on another human being's head before it reached me, I would be astounded.

Now for the humility. I do not possess anywhere near the experience and knowledge so many of you do. My research on the Stagecoach line comes pretty much from reading this thread, and downloading and perusing just about every page from the Miller-Stockman thread. And, of course, repeatedly consulting Joao Encarnado's model list. From none of those resources, can I form a conclusive opinion as to what model this is. The crown is 5 & 5/8 at the bottom of the crush, and 6 & 1/8 at the top of the side. The brim is 4". The closest I can find a match would be a Timber Creek, but the other Timber Creek I have came to me with what I consider a brick, or Dakota shape, while this one is definitely more of (gentle) teardrop. ANY input as to what my new baby is, would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and did I mention it's a glorious blue?

Nice hat - that's a good find! Is there a paper tag inside/behind the sweatband? The model and color name should both be on that tag. I'm curious what that color is called, as well as the model. I'm a big fan of the Resistol Stagecoach line.

Nope, paper tag is apparently the ONLY thing missing off this hat. Tiny, tiny, remnant of it left, without a single iota of type on it. There's a factory tag, but I'm not sure how I would glean anything off those numbers....
