I'm having crab cakes and cucumber salad leftover from lunch.

Everyone else is having baked chicken with homemade BBQ sauce, roasted potatoes, and green beans

Invented a new soup recipe yesterday. A barbecue pork and bean soup or pulled pork soup.

Started with 1kg of ham hocks and a 900g bag of dry lima beans. I think if I make it again I will use white kidney beans. Soak the beans overnight. Put beans and ham hocks in slow cooker with a 455 ml bottle of barbecue sauce, 2 chopped onions, 1/2 teaspoon of Knorr Aromat season salt, a bay leaf and enough water to cover. Simmer on High for 3 or 4 hours or until ham hocks are cooked. Remove hocks, separate meat and return to pot, discard bones fat and rind. Add a chopped red pepper and simmer until beans are cooked. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and a little Tabasco.

It came out great, a delicious hearty soup that goes well with corn bread or sourdough bread.

Last night: chicken and broccoli stir fry with jasmine rice

Tonight: beef stroganoff (extra baby portabella mushrooms), roasted carrots, and homemade applesauce. Trying to do softer foods because Lily's first tooth is about to fall out and she's having a hard time eating!!

Tried a new Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood last night. Had some tacos, a couple with campechanos (their version is grilled steak and chorizo) and a couple with carnitas. The tacos, along with the complimentary chips and salsa were outstanding. I'll definitely be stopping in there again.

Did they have tamales? I love a good tamale. Sadly, a proper tamale is hard to find up here. There is one place close that is spot on, but other than that, its slim pickings.

They did, but I did not try them. The taco truck down at the gas station has them sometimes. They are out of them more times than not when I go by there. I guess that says something about how good they are.
