Morning coffee under the brim of a Stetson.

I have to run to the grocery store so I changed to a Gannon Playboy.

This is now the oldest hat I have in my collection. A guess on this hat is that it may be a No. 1 Quality Stetson from 1935-1940. Alan offered some good information on it, but added that it would be very hard to tell without the original sweat, which has been replaced. A generous lounger sent this one to me. It was a very small 6 3/4 until I recently I converted it and reblocked to a 7 1/4 LO. The original sweat band, size tag , and liner were all missing. Fortunately it still had the original manufacturers labels. Here's the hat and labels, and what it looks like now after I converted it. Unfortunately the brim binding came apart in a couple of spots when I was blocking it. For now I'm going to leave it as is.The manufacturers label gave the block type as a 52. I just happened to have a 52 block in my size. That's what I reblocked it on. Also, a previous owner punched two holes at the brim break on either side, probably for a wind cord. The reblocking moved the holes up to the crown and are hidden by the ribbon. It sports a tall straight crown with a 2 3/4 snap brim that I flanged on a #19 brim flange. The felt quality is unbelievable and has a real smooth finish. It's a solid hat with a few minor issues. There's a little discoloration showing where some of the brim was moved up to the crown after blocking it up.

I originally guessed this hat to be from the 1940s while the Lounger who sent it to me guessed it to be from the 1930s. More discussion in the dating your hat thread....

P. & C. Habig Wien "Grand Prix Paris" possibly around 1900. There was a newspaper from 1903 behind the Sweatband so my guess is this model was made around the time of 1900 Paris Grand Prix. I was very lucky to find this Stiff Felt back in 2021.

Looks great, Terry. Nice to see the old hat getting a new lease on life.

Thank you, Brent! The felt quality on this hat is awesome and the finish is 'smooth as silk'. This is one hat that I'm glad I converted. I'm a little bummed out over the brim binding falling apart, though. I'll probably replace it later on....and I'd like to find a vintage mid-ribbon of the same color to put on it to hide the discoloration where I reblocked it. Anyway, good thing I didn't bet money when I guessing the hat's age! I was off by a decade!

Joe, Thank you! I think I will continue with Stiff Felts and then shift too Curled Brim Soft Felts.
