What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Day 21 of 31 Hat Parade: Only 10 more to go, this is getting really hard. Today we feature another bespoke hat from another Hatter here in the Pacific Northwest. We are blessed with the greatest hat makers in the USA out here. Mike Gannon Hats created this large and in charge fedora for me a couple of years ago. Navy colored beaver felt. I had Mike put black and orange (bronze) highlights in the bow as a tribute to my alma mater, Oregon State University. The crown (top dimensions) is a full 6" with a 2 5/8" brim. These lines are an homage to the beautiful hats of the 1950s. It does get some looks out in public, this hat is over the top!

This reminds me of a spate of wearing cooking colanders a few years back. I have some plastic 5 gallon buckets I could model! Great hats, love that Mac a whole bunch Joe.

This week I will feature Echter Borsalino Hats which were made for the German Market. The hats will be from the late 1920s up to the 1950s.

Echter Borsalino "Mogano" "Gatesan", possibly mid to later 1930s. The Mogano / Mahogany Felt has a great smooth finish and is very pliable. The form is sporty with a mid ribbon and slightly offset bow. Also has a unique / interesting textured Sweatband.

Wonderful hat to watch the sunrise in. I too have had my internal clock affected. I have been up before the sun consistently for a while now. I don't look as good as you do though.

Thank you, Mike. As a civil servant our jobs were considered "essential" from the start (not everybody agrees). My wife was instructed to work from home, but because I have my own separate office I didn't even need to do that. So business as usual for me through all of this.

Stefan, Thanks! I had no idea if this hat (plus 2 others) would ever arrive. The seller was in poor health (and unstable) but in the end it some how worked out.

Your Mayser "Spezial" today is special. I really like the contrast between the band and binding. Also great form!

meanwhile I’ll enjoy the Rogers-Peet (MacLachlan) on what was a violently stormy afternoon of tornado warnings and hail. But has mellowed out nicely to a quiet but very humid evening.

Mike, Thank you! Good question. I am not sure it can be answered without some really old (pre 1920s) examples. (I added something info below.) I doubt the current Borsalino factory has the answer. They have some of the names but not their history. Great looking Lords Hat custom from NW Hatters. I remember when you were working on this commission.

A rare example, Steve. We don't see the Mogano colour that often and this is the only Gatesan model I know of. Excellent.

It’s so aggravating. It’s much harder to find the good vintage minnow buckets in larger sizes for my head!

Well....today i was planning on pulling out one of my most special, Stetson did it friggin alright, wear only for something special hat, just to brighten up my day.
I was brushing it and noticed a thingy place, then a kinda unrecognized area and immediately went into “Panic Thought Mode”. Oh, who been messin with my hats?? Dog, hit the road!!! You know just regular hat panic.
Alas, i turn it over and what?? Oh yeah, it’s the little brother!!
Hippo digs the Hollywood thing!
I also answered my own question.
Yes, Stetson did make an Open Road 3X Last Drop. Duhh
