View attachment 237093 View attachment 237094 I love a Cavanagh fedora that Anthony Amodeo sold in his memorable hat sell-off a couple of years ago. I wasn't able to acquire it because he had already sold it to @scottyrocks, from The Fedora Lounge, and have since bitterly regretted my tardiness.

I asked Scott directly if he would sell it to me, and he replied he wouldn't "even if hell freezes over", so I have tried to find the same Cavanagh ever since.

Today I wore my Knox Twenty for the first time, and just realized why I like it so much: both hats are nearly identical in color (although I can't get my camera to show it accurately) and proportions, and the felt seems to have the same texture, softness, and malleability. They even have the same bash! No wonder Anthony liked it!

So, my search is over!

Congrats, Max. I'm glad you were able to find what is for you a dream hat. I know how ecstatic I was to get this Cav.

Yes, there is a tag under the sweat and liner, but I am always loathe to start pulling on sweats and liners in older hats, especially enough to take a picture, and again, especially when they are in such pristine condition.

This week I will feature Echter Borsalino Hats which were made for the German Market. The hats will be from the late 1920s up to the 1950s.

Echter Borsalino Export Qualität "Gulaela" possibly late 1950s. The "Export Qualität" designation was added in the mid 1950s. The medium weight black Felt is very dense and has great smooth finish plus very pliable. The lower profile Form results in a unique look. The overall condition is excellent.

Day 22 of 31 Hat Parade: As an end to Bespoke Week I submit to you a custom hat that came from a fellow collector, Bill Hughes. This fedora is from Black Sheep Hat Works in Bremerton WA, made by Bob Jessee. The felt is beaver "silver belly", a very light tan and quite smooth and supple. Classic lines with a special treatment of the bow which I love. The one thing about creating custom hats from these great hatters, is the queue. Patience is a virtue, but so hard. This one was instant gratification, Bill had to do the waiting (a year out in some cases).

Decided to add a little color to my 50s Borsalino, then donned a Runabout chambray mask on the daily Masked Corona Crawl. The felt on this hat is so fine and malleable that the wind will challenge any idea I have of affecting the bash. I find that it pretty much just falls into a rough diamond crease.
Great sun, waves, and a vigorous swim out past the surfers where I just floated over some pretty decent swell.

Some of the locals have not been too receptive of my hat/selfie hobby lately, and have expressed their displeasure with some unfriendly gestures much worse than this one today.

If it is not a good day for a swim, I walk out past Keália Beach to an old jetty called The Pineapple Dump, that sticks out out over the rocks with some mean waves crashing ashore. I was just saying when I was there the other day that if the wind took this hat into the drink, I was going in after it.

Last evening I watched the sun set in a Stetson Fifteen.

This morning I watched the sun rise in a Australian Stetson Whippet. After a dog soiree I headed out for a long jaunt in the woods.

This afternoon lunch was had on the deck in a VS Executive (bluemist beaver felt). Lunch was more colorful with our local Scarlet Taningier contributing it's songs.

Incredibly petable velvety smooth finish
4 3/4 crown
1 3/4 overwelt double stitched brim
1 3/4 super supple leather sweatband
Matching corded hat band

This Borsalino Colombo was my very first Borsalino and with its luxurious velveteen smooth finish it remains one of my favorite hats. It is a hat that without a doubt deserved a spot in the 30 Days to 30 Hats... yet here we are. This hat definitely takes in some trachten cues with its corded band and slightly tapered (though not by much) crown. It’s fairly short brim at 1 3/4 is made up for in just about every other aspect of this hat. The felt is super soft and of course very petable and smooth in a beautiful dark chocolate or dark coffee color. It is very dense and warm in winter. The 1 3/4 (oddly it appears to the eye much taller) sweat is soft and supple. And it also features the super cool “Colombo” liner which kinda reminds me of the Knox flying cloud. What else can I say about a hat that if it were a half inch wider on the brim would be a grail type hat for many.

The felt is its selling point, Joe. Like you say: its style is not to everyone's taste here on the lounge, but that's a high quality hat for sure. Little niggle from me: the colour is Mogano. The cord is Assab (it's a c/ and not "el"; the c standing for "cinta" -cord or ribbon).
