Fantastic Gannon and pics. I love pics of great hats with snow on them.

Wintry morning with a few flakes coming down. Pottering about and trying to decide whether to shovel or wait for spring under a Resistol Hi-7

Wow. Just wow. That hat leaves me speechless. Great find. Happy birthday, my friend.

I have arranged with one of your local pubs to furnish you with free food and drinks today.

Now you have to find which one.

Also, thanks for the props on my Knox. It ain't got nuttin' on yours, though.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

A very happy birthday to you my friend! This hat, besides being out-fricken-standing, is a wonderful historical piece. Such a great tribute to have this warrior's hat, and to be able to tell his story. Good on you!

DANG, there, Richard! Classic!! That Campbell is just souper!!! (Sorry... couldn't help myself.)

That's what Charlie's jokes are, M'm!, M'm!, bad.

(But in a good way.)

Happy Birthday Matt. What a great piece of history. Congrats.

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes and hat congrats, everyone. I'm tremendously grateful for the education, eye candy, fun and fellowship that I get here on the Lounge. It's a hoot and a half.

YOU DA MEN!!!

I think it would be hard to put that one away. The beaded band is exceptional, nice width and gray colors go well on black.

Thanks DD. The hat has been thru a lot but it's a Rand. Still looks good & fits like a glove. I wear it year round when I go to my favorite Cattleman steakhouse.

The beaded band was made for me some yrs ago by a Native American woman I befriended. I have several of her pieces; that's how she made her retirement living. She has since passed on.

To celebrate my birthday, I'm wearing my present that arrived yesterday.

Knox Superfine from the 1940s.

The hat belonged to Brigadier General Jerome J. Waters, Jr. Waters served in World War I as a Captain in the 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Division. During that service, he was awarded three Silver Stars for "gallantry in action" on July 21, 1918 near Villemontoire, France.

In World War II, Waters commanded an artillery training center in China to train nationalist Chinese (known as the Y Force) for defense against the Japanese.

After the war, Brig. Gen. Waters was warden at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in the early 1950s. There, he instituted significant reforms and was also taken hostage at knife point by inmates on one occasion.

He died in 1972. I was born in 1972. I can't help but feel that this has worked out nicely.

I also attach a few items related to Brig. Gen. Waters. In the group photo, he is front left.

Happy Tuesday.
