Thanks DD. The hat has been thru a lot but it's a Rand. Still looks good & fits like a glove. I wear it year round when I go to my favorite Cattleman steakhouse.

The beaded band was made for me some yrs ago by a Native American woman I befriended. I have several of her pieces; that's how she made her retirement living. She has since passed on.

Thanks BB. If only it could talk. I wore it on a job in WY in the rain once, finally soaked thru on the 3rd day. Went to town & bought a Rodeo King so the Rand could dry out. The RK soaked thru in one day. It came apart & I didn't have time to take it back so I threw it in the trash!

To celebrate my birthday, I'm wearing my present that arrived yesterday.

Knox Superfine from the 1940s.

The hat belonged to Brigadier General Jerome J. Waters, Jr. Waters served in World War I as a Captain in the 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Division. During that service, he was awarded three Silver Stars for "gallantry in action" on July 21, 1918 near Villemontoire, France.

In World War II, Waters commanded an artillery training center in China to train nationalist Chinese (known as the Y Force) for defense against the Japanese.

After the war, Brig. Gen. Waters was warden at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in the early 1950s. There, he instituted significant reforms and was also taken hostage at knife point by inmates on one occasion.

He died in 1972. I was born in 1972. I can't help but feel that this has worked out nicely.

I also attach a few items related to Brig. Gen. Waters. In the group photo, he is front left.

That hat is gorgeous... All of your Namesake hats are killing me, especially the wider brimmed homburg-styles. I actually live in Germany (lower Bavaria) and see a lot of Maysers and Wegeners on the bay... one of these days...
