C. G. Wilke Velour probably late 1920s early 1930s.

Great hat, Steve. And it is obvious that the silhouette in the ad is yours.

I'm recovering from surgery on Monday & haven't been active but I did see the pic Bob posted. Most of us enjoy a little tongue in cheek humor & I found the pic to be just that, nothing more. But it had nothing to do with Akubra felt colors. I once posted a beach pic taken from a musicians website in the Musician's Hats thread that was removed by a mod & I let it go. Point being that it is the mods discretion as to how appropriate the pic may or may not be to the topic of the thread.

If Cindy is correct in that the mods were in discussion among themselves after Bob's pic was removed the first time then the real damage came when Bob took it upon himself to repost it, especially if he was in conversation with the mod group.

I don't know that we are entitled to any further explanation but perhaps some clarification & reconsideration from the mods are in order.
Good to read you back, Jack. I hope that the surgery went smoothly and that you are well on your way to a healthy you.

Having been a member on many forums and a mod on one, and having been on both sides of issues similar to this, there is no way one could know all the details of what went down if they were not a part of the moderation team.

Also, and many are not going to want to hear it, but forum moderators don't owe anyone any explanations regarding their actions. Some will like it, some will dislike it, and some will not be emotionally affected one way or another, and chips will fall to various 'sides.' That being said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to the way they handle each situation.

Because I don't know the details, I will not get indignant about it. Do I want to know? Not particularly. But I have a feeling this is not the result of the posting of one (non-relevant) to TFL photo.

But I am mildly curious about the behavior inconsistencies, only because it creates an atmosphere of doubt, as far as posting is concerned. As it is, I think and re-think my posts for appropriateness (mental editing). I don't want to now have to triple- and quadruple-think everything.

But then, I don't post anything risque or political, as they are really not appropriate for a 'GE' forum, so I'm not concerned.
Amen! LOL!

Two words about Bob and his punishment.
Every country has its sense of satire and humor, so far from discussing the meaning of what the common sense of decency in irony on this forum, but I need to understand. Something escaped me from the situation. I saw the video and the woman (a public figure) that appears in it Bob has used for his irony. That said I did not understand the link between the photo and his expulsion from FB. Does anyone help me?

Very nice looking homburg Daniele. I'm interested in the insides of this one, is the liner showy as well. The pinches are just right.

You are so dapper Fabio. The Cury is one of my favorites.

Nice start to the day, though participation seems light. Can't imagine why.

@mmbarnes - Matt, I'll see your minty green with a moss green Gannon.

I liked ol' Bob. Sorry all this happened. Evidently, he's already being missed. Anyway, this picture is from a few days ago but I'm wearing this conversion again today. Also, as I couldn't come up with a black 3/8 ribbon I did find another black 2 ply ribbon to make an OR style bow. So, it's now finished....my Resistol Stratocloner

I would leave that hat "as is"....darn good looking!

Emotions are high right now, sadly. I understand what you meant -- there was no ill will directed at anyone. I think it would go a long ways toward healing things amongst the regs if there was some sort of address from the mods detailing what happened...
Yes, I agree, and on this particular part of the forum as it seems to be where the highest amount of pain is being expressed. We all need to take a breath I'm afraid.

Love it just the way it is. Jumping on the bandwagon careening down the lane.

Hope this upheaval isn't getting in the way of a speedy recovery Jack. Even if you are flat on your back, you can still have your favorite hat resting on your belly so you can admire its beauty. Take it easy buddy.

Like all of your offerings, this one is out of the park. I am particularly drawn to the lines of that crown, is the reverse taper(?) common to the 20s/30s era. It sure is different, and an important historical detail I imagine.

Consistency is huge in rewards and punishment scenarios. I'm not fully understanding what's happening here, other than a punishment was handed out and the result of that created a level of distrust amongst some of the members. From what I'm gathering bits and pieces of information, the offended crowd feels as though the punishment was too sever for the offense. The offense being, from what I understand, posting an image of a scantly dressed woman, humorously driven by Bob. Bob's humor was making a connection between the hat color Tawny and a scantly dressed woman representing Tawny. That, on a surface value is funny, especially if it's her name.

The moderators didn't find it funny, nor did they find it appropriate. Perhaps the moderator found it inappropriate, distasteful, or unnecessary. So they removed said image. Then Bob posted it again in defiance. That move got him ousted.

Members feel that there have been inappropriate material posted without repercussions, let alone getting axed from the fora.
Members feel that because there's no precedence that's been that drastic before, there's no need to start with Bob now. Members want an explanation, as in, why start now, and why with a quality guy like Bob? Member are confused by the sudden and swift removal of a valued member who has only posted what others have posted previously e.g. Pam Anderson Bay Watch picture.

I don't want to be seen as an A-hole here so I removed my fedora pictures for the day until there's a little more clarity. I think everyone wants clarity which is normally the case when rewards and punishments are not being handed out with consistency. Members are timid, not knowing why the rules are "all of the sudden" being reinforced now and does this pertain to everyone or was it strictly a beef someone had with Bob. Again, there's lack of consistency that is driving all these questions, as I've heard them today.

As a middle-school teacher if I'm not consistent with my rewards and punishments, it causes the students to question my motives. Motives are being questioned here on the Fedora Lounge.

That's the best I could do given the piecemeal information I've been given.

Best,
Sam

I hear ya -- it's just that Bob's pic was posted soon after a pic of Pam Anderson in full Baywatch mode was posted. In fact, a lot of us post non-hat stuff in this thread... Sometimes shirts, sometimes shoes, sometimes awesome amateur Photoshop mash-ups, and sometimes music video embeds. So there's an inconsistency issue -- but especially in regards to the Baywatch/Whitesnake parallel. And since there's inconsistency, it's understandable that the public might perceive the mods as unfairly targeting the individual who received the punishment.
All forums have Terms of Service (TOS) rules that are enforced somewhat randomly by multiple volunteer mods. At the time, I saw the pic of Pam Anderson as being a parody of sorts on pics recently posted by Esther & Harv & their time together. If I were a mod I would see that as tongue in cheek humor & more appropriate to the WHAYWT thread then the shoes & clothing that you mention, for example. But that's just my opinion.

I agree that it might be perceived a mod is unfairly targeting Bob but that certainly wouldn't be 100% if the mods had the issue under discussion as stated by Cindy. It could also be perceived by the mods that Bob still had a chip on his shoulder from the prior suspension when he reposted the pic after it had been removed. That's why I would hope for reconsideration on Bob's behalf by the mods. Let's all learn from this (including Bob) & move on.

Thanks to all for the well wishes on my recovery. It will be a couple of months before I'm at 100% but I'm in no danger.

Mike, Thanks! I think some of it is that my head is slightly tilted to show the bow better. The center crease is fairly deep so there might be some distortion because of the tall crown. It's definitely of its time and place.

Here is one you might like.
