A mischaracterization. Nobody (except Karl) is "bullying" the Bartenders. For my part, I'm asking for engagement and clarification, as are the others imploring a response from the Mods.

Why is one cheesecake pic OK and another is inappropriate? The "triggering" event was an innocuous and famous cheesecake shot, coupled with a joke playing off her name and the felt color. The joke has been made on this forum before, with no reaction. I've made the same or similar jokes. So why was this one special? The answer seems to be because Bob was on a short leash. Yeah, he shouldn't have reposted it, but it seems it was taken down not because it was inappropriate, but because Bob posted it.

So, I think Justin and others are asking, What are the rules?

If we can have an entire thread dedicated to sexy photos of girls in guys garb, if the hats in artwork thread can show leggy blondes, if the other threads can have these images, and others have previously posted the same content with no ramifications, then what are the limits?

When am I going to run afoul with one of my bad jokes and get in trouble? I'm pretty loosey-goosey and make what I think are humorous posts, Simpsons and pop cultural references, funny gifs, stupid internet memes and the like. Now I'm not so sure I can come here and be myself. I've always felt my posts were inoffensive, but what if a Mod decides they're not? With no clarification, it's a crapshoot.

Let's see how this shakes out, but right now the Mods are ignoring a mess. We've already lost some good folks over this, some that offer the invaluable knowledge, insight, and hat collections that inspire others and make this a destination place for hat history and spreading enthusiasm. I personally don't want to walk away, but if the people that I come here to interact with have been driven away by actions such as this, I'll lose interest. I'm already posting less because this has taken the wind out of my sails.

I'm recovering from surgery on Monday & haven't been active but I did see the pic Bob posted. Most of us enjoy a little tongue in cheek humor & I found the pic to be just that, nothing more. But it had nothing to do with Akubra felt colors. I once posted a beach pic taken from a musicians website in the Musician's Hats thread that was removed by a mod & I let it go. Point being that it is the mods discretion as to how appropriate the pic may or may not be to the topic of the thread.

If Cindy is correct in that the mods were in discussion among themselves after Bob's pic was removed the first time then the real damage came when Bob took it upon himself to repost it, especially if he was in conversation with the mod group.

I don't know that we are entitled to any further explanation but perhaps some clarification & reconsideration from the mods are in order.
Wishing you a speedy and healthy recovery HJ!

After thinking on this for a couple of days, Jim, I think you just coverd every point I've considered and said it much better than I ever could. Perhaps the tenders don't owe us a damn thing, but without clarification we're left to our own devices.

I'm angry about this but not at anyone. We're all adults here, at least I'm unaware of any members who are children. What's wrong with a little clarification, especially when so many seem to be affected by this event. I'm left wondering, what are the rules? Was Bob given specific guidelines. As Jim said, am I stepping over an invisible line? Or, is it going to be as when the child asks "why?" and the response is "because I said so."

I'm not taking sides here - just making an observation.

Many posts, such as this one, are looking at this incident in the present moment with some predictions about the future.

One truth, which has not been (often) voiced, is that internet forums constantly evolve. People come and go. Feel and tenor change.

People will make their decisions about whether to be angry, indifferent, or happy, to stay or to leave because of this turn of events. TFL, particularly the Hat Forum, may need a little time to shake itself out. But there will not be an apocalypse. Life will go on, just with maybe a larger new-to-old face ratio than if this hadn't happened.

I'm more saddened than angry. I understand we are guests in their house and must conduct ourselves as such. And I like that this place is moderated and there is a sense of decorum and respect among the Members. But we're also contributors to the success of this place, imparting knowledge and sharing ourselves, guiding budding hat wearers through sometimes murky waters, and showing how much we enjoy this hobby and fashion statement.

I frankly don't think we'll ever get Bob back. The Mods have dug in their heels and would see it as a blow to their authority and control to backtrack.

But I'm saddened because this is the clubhouse I come to many times daily to visit with my friends. To share, laugh, learn and all those other wonderful things. My best friend here has checked out. My very good friend has been banned. Others whose company I enjoy are considering walking and have, at least for now, stopped being so active. So how long will this forum remain of value to me?

@scottyrocks says, "This too shall pass." But at what cost?

Like it or not, something untoward has been plopped in the punchbowl at a party. The Mods can make an effort to clean it up, or expect us to keep drinking the punch until the offending item dissipates and is a distant memory. Right now, the punch tastes really, really bad.

Hear Hear! Very articulate evaluation of the situation Jim. I wonder if the lack of us being active on the lounge will effect the revenues that keep it going? I don't want to leave, this place means so much to me, but I think a "Free Bob" movement is at hand.

Prehaps if we stopped whining & cease trying to put pressure on the powers that be by threatening to withdraw our participation, things might evolve, let the dust settle so we can all see things a little more clearly. Suppositions & presumptions regarding the reasons for Bob's ban are pointless & helping no one nor are relating & comparing other posts or photos elsewhere for the purpose of illustrating Bob's victimization. We don't know what happened & unless someone has information from both sides of the coin to divulge, it might be better we kept our conspiracy theories to ourselves.
I don't think your punch analogy is a good one.......I see it as Bob being sent off for foul play by a referee & it's up to a committee to decide whether or not Bob can play in future games. The decision isn't ours to take nor can we influence the outcome.
