A return to normal temperatures with a bit of rain here today, although it's not enough to dampen our drought. The descendants of Tom Joad may go back to Oklahoma if this keeps up.

Navy blue Champ with burgundy ribbon.

Wow, another nice blue one GD!

Thank you, sir. It doesn't get out much. Seems more of deep winter dress hat because of the color, and the proportions don't match up well unless it's paired with a top coat or similar outerwear. But if I flip the brim up I can wear it casually with just about anything.

Rick, I'm envious in so many ways....

Thanks Michael. Gotta love the Texas hill country in the springtime. Kids were swimming in the Guadalupe River during the days and gathered around the fire at night to warm up. It was fantastic. I'm not ready to be back to the real world!

Rick that's one gorgeous, clean looking Open Road, Is the hand on that as nice as it looks? I'm breaking out my minty mid 50's Royal De Luxe Open Road for Easter services tomorrow. That'll be it's first outing.

Thanks! It is a really nice hat. The felt does have a nice hand, putting it in a different league than the modern version, but the quality of the leather on the sweatband does not match the felt quality. The felt is more stiff on the brim and is quite soft on the crown, which is what I prefer. As nice as I'd say this hat is, in no way does it match the quality of the 1950s era Open Roads.

I've stayed on the Queen a couple times.
Latest was in early '03. I'd read where she was falling into disrepair. Did you think so?

I forgot to bring one on this trip so I just wore it through the body scanner thing. The TSA dude did have a good feel of it which I think he was enjoying just a little too much!
I would seize it with no return option ;)
Bag or no bag, my hat have to pass the X-ray machine, not the body scanner.

It's a wet Easter morning here on the beautiful "Canta Forda" ranch. I pulled this old Resistol 7x beaver I had out of the closet and run a new crease in it yesterday. Don't really know whT this crease is called, but I've seen it on lots of old photos. Not really a cattleman. But close. I'm open to suggestions!
Nice Resistol.

In a rush this Easter day. Expecting the kids and grandkids over for dinner any minute. Just enough time to tell everyone how great they look, and Happy Easter to all! Anyway, I put my new to me vintage hat block to the test. The sacrificial lamb was either a '70s / '80s vintage 4X Open Road...these more recent Open Roads are crap compared to the earlier vintage ORs. The block did a nice job sizing it up. I lost about 1/8 off the brim when I reblocked it to my size, but that's fine. It was 2 3/4 before reblocking. It's 2 5/8 now after I blocked it up to my size.
Nice work. Whatever ribbon you choose, for sure you will make it work.

Today on this hot day, I started with this black 60's Stetson

Then this brown 4XB Stetson.

Then my friends appeared and we went to a restaurant. I took the Silverbelly Stagecoach with me but no pictures.

Hi hatguy
well I was there in 03 as well when my cousin played music on board & it has change mgt a few times since
11 years ago were my favorite times there
as for disrepair yes it is a aging ship nowadays & I do follow the blogs & latest info on the boat as I see it
it is still a great place for me & my wife as we are lost in time & nostalgic folk the staterooms are kept up & as a historical ship its as close as it can be to the real deal the rooms I mean & I will continue to visit & stay aboard.
as there are not many places left like the QM, I do see current Mgt as profiteers more than historical preservation
but its a old ship & does need constant upkeep the City of Long Beach purchased it in 1967 & have a corperate run it.
a big plus is there are hat hooks in the staterooms
Go Back as your a FL member im sure you will enjoy it like a Fine old quality Hat !

Royal Stetson this morning. I have to admit that I'm looking forward to this afternoon's rain since it should help wash away some of the bright yellow pollen that is covering everything right now.
