Early evening has me in the Montecristi Santa Fe and a pair of Oakleys.....I am loving this hat! I could tell the straw was very dry when it arrived several days ago. Must've been stored in the box for may years. But is was clean and pristine so I wiped it down with some baby wipes, gave it a light steaming and a couple very light spritzes of water, put some Picards leather conditioner on the sweat, and then left it on a towel bar in the bathroom the last couple days to absorb some good shower steam. It has come back from the dead, the straw has softened up and it has a new lease on life.

My latest conversion. This one started out as a faded and moth bitten Tanbark 6 3/4 Resistol Stagecoach that Bob Hufford gifted to me. I turned the hat inside out and reblocked it and made a 7 1/4 Longhair Stagecoach fedora out of it. I'm really happy with this one. I have the crown creased to 5 inches tall at the pinch with a rake sloping to 4 inches tall in the back. I went with a taller crease since I put a wider ribbon on it. The ribbon came off of a modern Whippet and is not attached yet. I have more pics in the Conversion Corral....

It is pretty cool. I think I have two of these $10 hats, if I recall correctly.

Mercifully cool this morning, ran out for errands when I could wear a felt. 1950s Knox Premier Strat-clone with a period Lockheed Connie pin. TAR without even planning!

Both lovely, Michael, but the Leo is the clear winner for me.

The Leo may win out in the beauty contest, but the Biltmore takes it in utility. The Leo can't go biking with me while the Milan can.

That finish is superb Terry. Was it coaxed out of the felt with brushing? I love everything about this one.

Thank you, Michael. What I did was turn the hat inside out where the felt is unfinished. After doing that I gently "combed" the fibers a few times with a yellow sponge and then brushed it smooth, all in one direction.

A nice cool morning sees me under a Shady Oak from Peters Brothers.

The Shady Oak throws a lot of shade! How wide is that brim?

I haven't posted here recently. Two reasons for that: 1) I haven't purchased any new hats lately, and 2) I'm currently halfway through a dermatological treatment for a pre-cancerous skin condition on my forehead.

I call #2 my "push-me-pull-you" hat. Most hatbands irritate the area where I am applying fluorouracil cream, which itself has caused my forehead to appear as if I had a blotchy sunburn. That's also what it feels like.

So, I've taken to wearing a baseball cap briefly, when walking to my car, or being in the sunlight. I've got my straws at the ready, along with my new Stetson Fredericks, for when my treatment is over and my forehead returns to its better-than-normal state.

The Shady Oak throws a lot of shade! How wide is that brim?

It's the standard 4" brim, but that's a lot of acreage when you lay it out flat. The crown is maybe a bit over 4 3/4 with a sort of telescope crease.

"Doctor's orders!" This is why I referred to my wearing a "push-me-pull-you" (fans of Dr. Doolittle will understand) hat. My dermatologist has remarked on more than one occasion how much he likes my hats. And he's much in favor of my wearing them. So much so, that he recommended a hat shop to me!

So now -- at least for a while -- wearing a hat is an uncomfortable experience. But once it's done, back go the fedoras. With a vengeance!
