Stetson Stowaway

In my endless search for a grey fedora I spotted and purchased this online. Only when it arrived did I realise that it was a crushable - and what a crushable it is! This has to be the lightest of all my felts and even makes my Borsalino feel like a tank in comparison. Yet they have somehow maintained its strength. It takes a second to funfold it, crease it and stick it on your scone. I've not seen a modern crushable that can match this one for pliability.

Not that it's that old. It has the 'leaf' logo and I'd guess it's probably from the 60's. I can find no information anywhere on this hat. Maybe it was a short-lived model.

Proportions:

Brim: 2"
Crown: 5" open
Ribbon: 3/8"
Colour: Caribou (according to the lable under the sweat)
Retailer: Southcomb, Baltimore (I haven't been able to find anything on them)
Sweat: 1 3/8" cotton with cloverleaf bow
Size 7 1/4

You take your Stowaway

You put it on

You take it off - and flatten it along the handy crease provided

You roll it up

Stick it in your pocket or luggage

Take it out, give it a quick crease and stick it back on your noggin

Anon, I like the brown hat with blue suit combo, which can work if properly complemented, IMO - I think in this case, the tie is what brings it together. Classic!

Ephraim, not bad for a folding hat! It looks certainly practical. Now you should go on with the quest for a "proper" grey fedora.

And yes...the search for a decent grey medium brim fedora continues. I do have a charcoal Stetson trilby and a Sovereign Deluxe stingy but something with the dimensions of the brown Mallory I posted yesterday would suit me fine.

This is my Glenburnie Supreme. I believe it to be from the 30's due to the unreeded sweat as well as the straight, tall crown, taller than it appears in the pics. This a hat I got off the bay that didn't have a band so I made my own.
