Adam's THE POLAR.

It's cold. Got my fingers crossed that the snow in the forecast for tomorrow pans out.

Happy Tuesday that's like a Monday.

Brrr! Back to the office after taking last week off for R&R. Woke up to -9F. Those poor airmen at the gate, checking IDs.

New to me Stetson Royal Deluxe two-tone heathered felt. Light grey crown, dark grey brim, with triple stitching.

Don't really know what to make of that hat, Jim. Why not send it over to me so I can assess it properly:D

You didn't say what you use for a steamer but when a hat is really stiff like that I have had good luck with lots of hot steam that has a lot of hot water content to the steam. Really soak the felt pretty good. The hot water will penetrate & soften the stiffener better than just steam alone. When the felt cools to the touch it is time to steam it again. Just use tap water, but because the water is boiling it purifies & will not mark the felt. So if you are just using a tea kettle then you may have to come up with something else.

My moonstone CD was probably the stiffest felt I have encountered so far & I got it pretty wet with hot water & steam. I use an espresso machine with a brass boiler that has both a steam tap & a hot water tap, but it I barely crack open the steam tap I can get to a point where it will sputter water out with the steam & that is enough to get the felt hot & wet. I think the heat to soften the stiffener is the trick.

That's a fine looking lid, HJ. You have any idea what the open crown height might be on that? I've been wanting to get a CD for a while and try to do some reworking on one. I have a few ideas if I can ever get my hands on one.

That's badass.

I was going to bid on that one! Decided that I was too poor.

I'm glad it made it into your hands. Looks great.

Thank you buddy. My Great Grandmother bought that radio brand new around 1940 or so at a place called Nelson Furniture, which is no longer around. I remember that radio as a kid when my grandmother turned it on it would make a low howling noise as it was warming up.

Go forth and play in the rare snow. Probably should take that beautiful hat off before making Snow (gravel) Angels though.

Yeah, I'm liking that tight pinch with those straight sides on that crown. You do cool conversion work Terry. Love seeing them.

The Marathon looks good after a little winter sleep. Maybe the cold will break soon and the flow of fedoras will emanate from your closet. Enjoy your day Michael.
Thank you, Red. I really appreciate that.
