ETSY purchase from DaQuino Hats for roughly $80 shipped from Portugal. THE GODFATHER.

Great design. Round all the way versus a homburg which lifts upwards on the sides. My only complaint is the quality of felt. Tag says rabbit. I would have preferred a decent wool felt like a Baileys. I plan on emailing the hat maker to see if she has more options.

Interesting! I just posted one of my own custom fur hommie from D'Aquino. I'm curious as to why you would prefer the wool version? She does offer a wool homburg here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/124628...-hat-in-blue-wool-felt?ref=shop_home_active_5

The first fur hommie I ordered from Luisa had a stiffened crown (I believe this is D'Aquino's standard for hommies), which I really didn't like. I like mashing my hats into whatever shape I fancy -- so I made sure to specify that I wanted an un-stiffened/malleable crown when ordering my second hommie from her. The fur quality is not super stellar, but I'm 100% pleased with the product. The touch on it compares to my vintage Stetson pork pie, though the weight on the D'Aquino is a hair (hare!) heavier.

All that said, I think it would be a worthwhile investment for you to give the un-stiffened fur version a try before moving down to wool.

Thought I would flatten the brim of an old stetson I have and broke out my old scout hat press. What I store in it is a RCMP hat I used as a leader back in the day. Thought you may like pictures. Made by Biltmore.


This was my first scout style hat.

The fur quality is not super stellar, but I'm 100% pleased with the product.

The hat is fantastic as far as style and shape goes but after having it for a while I am totally disappointed with the fur quality as you mention. It reminds me of the in house quality that Hats In The Belfry sent me. The hat feels like an addition to a costume and not a real hat.

My reference to wool has to do with quality. I would much rather have this hat in a wool ( Ie. Kangol/Baileys ) than a cheap rabbit fur like Luisa uses. I assume the wool would be the same cost ? Ideally a better quality felt would be the number one choice.

I've been meaning to ask since I read this post over the weekend - why would you prefer a wool hat over a fur felt?
BTW - I have two D'Aquinos. For the price, Luisa makes a nice hat.

I would think WOOL would be Cheaper . The Wool Hat I had REALLY seemed like a costume Hat , looked good , but NOT a Hat I would want to wear . I gave mine away .

My wool Kangol's and Baileys sure don't feel cheap. We agree to disagree perhaps ?

Oh I see... Well, her wool quality may be a sub-fino sort of quality as well, though I haven't personally ordered one. It certainly is more inexpensive! You save ten bucks on the hat. Either way, if you order from her again -- whether fur or wool -- I would recommend asking her to leave the crown un-stiffened. It's likely that the stiffening they add to their dress hats contributes to the costumey feel of the product. I personally love the gray hommie I got from her -- might be time to order one in another color! Oh shoot -- now when I want a new hat, I have to ask my wife's permission first =)

If I'm in the market for a woolly, I'd def go either Bailey or Goorin -- they both make very nice wool hats. There's a Goorin in SD that's handy to have around. The other hat boutique in town is Village hat Shop, but their house brand, Jaxon, makes an atrocious (IMO) wool hat. They may be packable but the poor quality is identifiable at twenty-five feet.

As for wool, I never really worked with it much, I went for the good stuff right from the start.
My supplier did send me a sample of a new type of wool felt they are planning on producing, I gotta say, not bad.
I'll have to test it out though.
