Wow. Anybody ever mention youse guyz knock it out of the park every freakin' day? While I haven't posted to this thread this week - I've been watching. Too many to give props to over the past few days, but I'll say I agree on Anthony's OR. That's a Tasty 25, and you do take great photos. And Matt's Homburgs continue to shine.

For me, it's What Hat are You Wearing This Week, as I'm on travel. So I brought the SB CD up to the frozen tundra of Anchorage and Elmendorf AFB, where I'm kicking off a test of some new de-icing technology. So yes, that means the Akubra and me are standing out on the tarmac watching them de-ice airplanes. Oh the joy of being chilled to the bone...

Could somebody please point me in the direction of St. Alphonso's Pancake Breakfast?

The CD looks comfortably at home out there, Frun! You Do need to borrow a scarf from Bob, maybe. HOW cold is it?

Funny thing is, it's been warmer here than at home. Currently in the teens (it's 6:30AM right now). But standing around on the tarmac and in drafty hangars for 10-12 hours gets to you after a while - at least me. I don't like to be cold, but this is fun and exciting work, and my field work isn't as active as it once was. I usually send out other tech specialists on these things, as I spend most of my time these days moving pieces on the chessboard. I meant to pack a scarf, but forgot. I'm coming back in a month to de-mobilize and finish up.

It's strikingly beautiful here. Only my third time in AK. I'll try to get away today or tomorrow so I can post some to Fedoras Afield.

Matt what color is that hommie? That's a real treasure.

Thanks Perry and everyone else for all the nice comments. It's great to be a small part of what is shaping up to be a banner day at the Lounge.

Boy Perry... I have such a hard time answering color questions, especially since different light sources have such an effect on hat shades. For this one, my best description is that it is brown but with a dark rusty undercurrent. The ribbon responds well to different conditions too.

Here is a shot under an incandescent light on my desk. It is very accurate for that lighting condition.

one of the most beautiful color combos I have ever seen

this hat actually heavily inspired my color choices for the new Gannon I ordered ... even though the colors of my Gannon are not those colors at all ... the contrast and ribbon color really touched me and I wanted to get something that gave off that type of vibe

here is what my Gannon will look like

So Fruno....what do you do in those Hangars ????

If I tell you I have to kill you.

In this case, we're (by that I mean my subcontractors) are installing an IR camera on a de-icing truck. The camera is designed to detect ice thicknesses and give a digital video readout. The operator can then more efficiently de-ice an aircraft, saving time, money, and using considerably less glycol to de-ice a plane. Once installed, we test it on active aircraft on the flight line - in this case C-17s. We're leaving the unit up here for a month for the USAF techs to play with, and my sub hopes they are convinced to purchase a few.

Normally, I'm just trying to find ways to prevent and reduce corrosion on aircraft - this is a bit different for me.

Jim really looking forward to some pics ... always wanted to get up there

such a unique part of this planet

It's harsh and beautiful! I figured it was appropriate to bring my rugged Outback hat. Nearly 12,000 miles from its place of manufacture.
