For now, wearing the black Capas 8/4 cap I picked up on sale at Henry The Hatter's last week. Black linen.

Starlights

A few grainy snapshots from Saturday night's fundraiser at the Buffalo Museum of Science. We get a couple of thousand up to the rooftop observatory to hopefully see some planets and stars. This night, the clouds allowed only a telescopic architectural tour of the downtown buildings. Fun anyway.

my vintage 5" Zeiss refractor is a babe magnet. Or maybe it's my yeddo boater? :nerd:

Alan: As much as I love Zeiss refractors...I use one( a pair, actually) nearly every day at work...I think your elan in that linen jacket and boater is the draw.

Regarding the suitability of high weave count Montecristis in warm weather, I can provide you with some of my observations. While many respected loungers have commented on the ineffectiveness of fine Monetecristis in providing adequate ventilation, I have had a very different experience.

I have worn my Montecristi exclusively this Summer, hiking, climbing, knocking about town, and even during the uncharacteristically warm and humid weather we had last week here in Minnesota, when temps were in the mid 90s and we broke the all-time Minnesota dew point record with readings in the 80s( equivalent to, and exceeding levels in the Amazonian Rain Forest!), I felt quite comfortable.

Certainly, I perspired profusely, but the finely woven Montecristi is so light, extraordinarily supple and unexpectedly breathable that I actually felt less warm wearing it, than I did with my Tilley, lightweight felts or even my Optimo Milan, which I love dearly. I do believe, however, that there is a 'sweet spot' for weave count and practical usability, beyond which its effectiveness as functional warm weather/sun wear can be significantly compromised.

I would not hesitate to consider a fine Montecristi as an all-purpose Summer hat, and intend to wear the heck out of mine!
