Almost a blizzard down here....

.... for Texas at least today so I thought I'd give my Squatter some snow time when I go out today !!! I know it is a "modern" production hat so probably won't do as well as the better made Vintage hats but we'll see

I'm very happy with how the hat turned out, as it looks VERY different from the original . Those Buckaroo Hatters really know what they're doin'!

Well, Mike Moore had been trying different hats on me to see what the most fitting brim width was. Once that was done, he had to tend to some other customers (the place was VERY busy that day, and apparently this is somewhat the norm). While he was busy I was just looking around. I had been looking at the Boss of the Plains style of hats, but none of the models on the racks fit me (turns out I'm not a 7 3/8 Long Oval, but rather a 7 1/4 Extra Long Oval shakeshead). So I decided to look at felt colors. This was the only Black Cherry hat in the store, as far as I could tell.

I found this hat. Originally, it had a 4.25'' raw brim, a tall open crown, no liner, and no stampede strings. Through some steam and sweat, the hatters there turned it into this telescope crown with a 3.5'' bound edge (and stampede strings) with an absolutely stunning red liner. The process distorted the crown a tad, but I liked the look even better that way.
