Yes, I use dry vermouth. I suppose in 1894 they used sweet vermouth but I like it better with dry vermouth. It differentiates it from its Manhattan brother better. I also crush the cherry in the bottom of the glass---not use it as a garnish. That relates it to its cousin the Old Fashioned.
- 1 1/2 oz Scotch
- 1/4 oz dry vermouth
- Angostura bitters to taste(usually 2 dashes)
- maraschino cherry for garnish
