Polished off the last of the Clyde May's
Alabama style whiskey yesterday. Picked up a fifth of JD #7 on the way home this evening.
Speaking of craft whiskey like Clyde May's, this is new up at a price point that puts it in with some very good whiskey! I would like to buy a bottle but keep asking myself but why?

So much whiskey to drink; so little time & money.

"Smooth Ambler Old Scout Straight Bourbon is a high-rye straight bourbon whiskey, bottled at 117.4 proof. It is blended in limited, hand-selected batches without chill-filtration, and enjoys the bold character we think excellent bourbon should deliver."

Mashbill: 60% corn, 36% rye, 4% malt. A high-rye bourbon.
Distillation Process: Continuous column distillation.
Aging: Approximately 5 years old, non-chill filtered.
Tasting Notes: Sweet and smooth, with notes of butterscotch and cherry pipe tobacco, it is exceptionally drinkable for 117.4 proof.

Another brand I did not have on my list so far.

You can find the „serial“ 7yo Old Scout in shops from time to time here, even Mr. Bezos got it in stock sometimes. As well as some other stuff like Balcones, Corsair, Few, Koval, Dry Fly...

I got a 15yo Port matured Heaven Hill from an indie bottler which is quite nice, they also published a 20yo HH recently, maybe I make it to their ware house again one sunny day.

Here are the standards I currently got on my table, love these neat and for Sours and such...older pic, the SFTB had not been opened when pic was taken...

I gave in & bought a bottle at the price point. Old Scout Smooth Ambler Bourbon is an MGP product & this is a 5 yr old barrel pick after being off the market for 3 yrs. It's distilled at 58.7% ABV making it 117 proof. So I had to try it. The original Old Scout Smooth Ambler was a 7 yr old @ 99 proof. I don't know if MGP will be bringing it back or not.

More to come in the Drinks thread.

With a Coors chaser

I honestly did not drink the JD for many years, like decades....but since this covid mess got serious it's all I drink lately. It's what my parents drank. It's what my grandparents drank. I guess it's like comfort food or something. Doesn't come close to grandma's chicken and dumplings, but since that's not an option these days, it'll have to do.
