Tonight to take the edge off the day was Knob Creek 9 year old with cool water. I found this better than on ice.

I am hoping tomorrow to find myself at the liquor store one province over in Quebec. It is only a 30 minute drive. I have a small list I may try to fill of some whisky that is slightly less expensive on the Quebec side.

Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whisky
Basil Hayden
Knob Creek Rye

Has anyone tried Devil's Cut? It is a lesser expensive product up here, so it has me curious.

Not seen it down this way.

Tonight - stoli and grapefruit. My cold weather go-to. (works in summer too)

Jim Beam Devil's Cut - A play on the Angel's Share.

I picked up a bottle today. Very reasonably priced and it was on sale to boot ($28). Another gentleman was perusing the American Whisky shelves at the local liquor store so I asked him if he had a recommendation. He reached down and grabbed The Devil's Cut. It was his "goto" bourbon when he could not get Bulleit. My first and second tasting tonight left me pleasantly surprised and pleased. I would take another bottle home in the future. Easy drinking and the price is right.

Here is the Jim Beam PR on the product.

As bourbon ages, a portion of the liquid is lost from the barrel due to evaporation—that's the "Angel's Share." After aging, when the bourbon is dumped out of the barrel, a certain amount of whiskey is left trapped within the wood of every barrel. We call that the "devil's cut."

To create Jim Beam® Devil's Cut®, an extraordinary bourbon experience, we developed a proprietary process that actually pulls the rich whiskey trapped inside the barrels' wood after they're emptied. We hold this barrel-treated extract until it develops the proper balance of bourbon notes, then blend it with extra-aged bourbon and bottle at 90 proof. The result: a robust, premium bourbon with deep color, aroma and character.

I was looking around and this Jim Beam bourbon did win Double Gold at the most recent 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition for "Best Straight Bourbon".

The poor weather kept me shovling and made my trip to Quebec for some cheaper bourbons a bust. Maybe soon.

New Castle Cabbie, Black Ale.
Last time my nose was stopped up.
Tonight it's clear, so I can taste the ale better.
Not bad, it's a strong tasting beer, with almost a black coffee after taste.
I like this one!
