I have three 1930s wire Willson Sunglasses. Thomas A. Willson & Co. opened the first factory in the world to manufacture optical glass for lenses and reading glasses in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1871. In 1929 the company became Willson Goggles, Inc., and by World War II, was helping the war effort by making aviator goggles and high altitude oxygen masks for pilots. In 1936, the company changed its name to Willson Products, Inc. and began to produce fashionable sunglasses. Since they do not have nose pads they become a bit uncomfortable to wear after an hour or so and leave a nice indentation across the bridge of the nose. so fashionable!

I don't wear sunglasses but I'd love to have the Terminator 2 Persol shades.

I don't think hipsters exist anymore. Hipster thing, whatever it even used to be in the first place, died out. Clothes we talk about here went mainstream long ago. I don't think you can be a hipster, even if you tried.

Hmmm. Maybe but given there is virtually no real mainstream to belong to anymore, just increasing levels of social stratification, little subcultures can evolve and grow quite large, with inevitable crossovers and detours. I know quite a few bartenders and 30 year-old wannabe musicians who sneer at what they think is mainstream culture and consider themselves ironic, non-conformist and authentic and, yes, they wear that lumbersexual uniform. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Bausch & Lomb ray Ban Balormas again today folks. Red (dark) frames from the early 80's/late 70's
7 barrel hinges from that era. "manipulated" by an optical fitter to my personal scone shape ( head!).
Stay on my face on the Harley which was the plan. Several of my Balorama pairs in the rotation are so modded.
I first had that done in LA at Venice beach in 1993 , heated and shaped to my face/skull.
Photo also used in the "What jacket..." thread.

Last my purchase is the Ray-Ban Cockpit Aviators, and I love them. I have a small-ish face, and the lenses are a little smaller than standard Ray-Ban aviators. I bought them online after I tried on one of my friend's same aviator sunglasses

My favorite is this [pair] of Persols in the Tobacco - Polar Brown color combo for almost two years now and I love them. They're pricey, but well made and of sturdy construction. While sleek, they don't feel like they're going to break. I also think that they're a pretty classic style that I'll be able to wear for a long time

Today's sunglass offering , down the West Coast , Indian Ocean on a blustery pre-winter day.
These are (vintage) Persol , very high quality manufacture, NOT the Terminator 2 model but very close (same series)
Steel 5 barrel hinges and very good non polarised lenses.
Jacket my Aero steerhide blue label ex-Alex Lutov of St Petersburg Russia a whiles back.
These sunglasses are "no good" on the Harley , let too much wind in. They are not "wrap" enough.
Cool in the car tho' haha..

Today vintage early 80's Bausch & Lomb Black Ray-Ban Balorama L2870 WOAO
5 barrel hinges by this age. Very robust. I have multiple pairs just like this , including brand NOS.
It was a cool 6C start today , with a cold east wind from the desert. (Just 3 weeks ago we had 37C.)
