RIP Steve Cash (1946 - 2019). Founding member of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils (a big part of my musical life since I was 12 years old).

He must be in Heaven 'cause he raised more that a little hell!

Steve is second from right:

BTW ... my wife and I bought his house on the Niangua River in southern Missouri and lived there a few years in the early 1980s. Still have a couple of his harmonicas that he left behind.

Is that the house where the housekeeper was murdered in? Still an unsolved murder I believe.

No, that was at her home near Aldrich in Polk County. This house was near Buffalo in Dallas County. I do think we had a friendly ghost though. The original house was built in 1927 and added on to in the 1970s. There was a nice upright piano on the ground floor when we moved in (and quite a bit of Steve's "stuff" in the cellar). Ruell Chappell (a later member of OMD) said that the piano would play itself on occasion and that's the reason Steve Cash moved (although a bank repo might have had more to do with that). We didn't take the piano with us when we moved though...

Lydia Bonham (the cook and housekeeper for the band) was on the cover of the "It'll Shine When It Shines" album.

I remember when it happened. I believe he was questioned.

The track has an early example of guitar distortion. Session guitarist Grady Martin, used a faulty channel in the mixing desk for his six-string bass, for the bridge section and brief reprise right at the end, to create a distorted fuzzy sound. Although Martin did not like the sound, Robbins' producer left the guitar track as it was. The sound was eventually reverse-engineered and developed into the Maestro FZ-1 Fuzz-Tone, manufactured by Gibson.

If you've never seen a Playing for Change video, check them out. Usually a well-known song, often including the original artists, performed by musicians around the world on their home turf.

This one came out a few weeks ago, and it happens to be one of my favorite songs.

And hey, Ringo! Ringo makes me happy.

Robbie now looks like the guy that does your taxes.
