If I want a Svenska dansband I'll listen to Arne Hülphers or Thore Ehrling.

78s to refuse to have a migraine because I've got a three hour movie to preview by--

Starting off in 1929 with Nat Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra offering the hit tune from "The Broadway Melody," "You Were Meant For Me." Frank Luther on the vocal sounds rugged and manly compared to the simpy charm of Charles King in the movie. "I wrote it for YOU, Queenie!"

Next, ahead to 1933 for Bob Causer and his Cornellians -- one of the many pseudonyms for the ARC all-stars -- and a fine Chick Bullock vocal on "Now We're On Our Second Honeymoon." Dishes piled up in the sink and the cream spilled on the floor? Clean it up yourself, ya big bum.

Dance Mania by Tito Puente.

Last week the great conguero Francisco Aguabella passed away. I posted in the notable passings thread. I mistakenly wrote that Francisco played on the Tito Puente album “Dance Mania”. Though Francisco did play on many classic Puente records and wrote 2 of the tunes from Dance Mania, it was Ray Barretto that actually played conga on the record. (I didn’t bother to make the correction on the thread because nobody seemed to care).

Anyway, though the album has been in my collection for years I revisited it and in fact picked up the new legacy edition which not only contains the original 1958 Dance Mania record, but also the 1960 Vol. 2 follow-up, plus bonus tracks. It was worth buying it again to me just to get the instrumental version of one of my favorite songs, Estoy Siempre Junto A Ti.

There’s really nothing that I could write about the record that hasn’t been written before. This is a super tight list to make.

Dance Mania is on the third page. It is among records by Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, John Coltrane, Caruso, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holiday (and other greats).

Enjoy

With the London cast of "Jersey Boys".
A friend turned me on to this one when I woke up this morning;)
These four gents singing, and their backup girl singers too on this song are HOT!
I especially love the choreography here.

JB is a 50,000 watt @$$ kicker of a show. The energy is that contagious.

Now if they did a show like that built around real grown-up music...say, about the great era of the swing bands...well, I think I have a clue why they haven't. Dancing in the aisles on Broadway? It'd be a regular Popular Front!

A WWII-era favourite of mine that's been stuck in my head for a long time now (about a week). I've been singing it for days...

Jack Hylton and His Orchestra - "We'll Meet Again".

We'll meet again,
Don't know where,
Don't know when!

But I know we'll meet again,
Some sunny day!

Keep smiling through,
Just like you,
Always do!

Til the blue skies,
Turn the dark clouds,
Far awaaaay!

So will you please say 'Hello!'
To the folks that I know?
Tell them I won't be long!

They'll be happy to know,
That as you saw me go,
I was singing this song!

We'll meet again,
Don't know where!
Don't know when!
But I know we'll meet again,
Some sunny day!

This one would, without a doubt, be somewhere on my Top Ten Most Beautiful Tunes list. I've never heard a bad recording of this song.

Sam Coslow -- Please (1932)
Victor 24144-A

Lyrics
Please, lend your little ear to my plea
Lend a ray of cheer to my plea
Tell me that you love me too

Please, let me hold you tight in my arms
I could find delight in your charms
Every night my whole life through

Your eyes reveal that you have the soul of
An angel white as snow
But how long must I play
The role of a gloomy Romeo?

Please, say you're not intending to tease
Speed that happy ending and please,
Tell me that you love me too

Are you listening? Are you bored?
Have I struck a certain chord?
Does your little heart react?
Why hide the fact?

Keep me guessing but you'll find
I possess a one-track mind
Love is all I talk about
But you'll never tune me out
