Well, I know everyone calls the "Gus" crease "Tom Mix," but I've reviewed hundreds of pics, and this was by far the most common crease he wore - at least in what is available online:

Howdy all,
I tried this over in the panama thread, but I'm not sure it is the right place for it. For some time now I have been on the hunt for a hat like the one on the picture of a young Dayton O. Hyde. It is a straw weave cattleman of some kind, but I have yet to see something else like it. I prefer it's under exaggerated crown and brim. Has anyone seen something similar? My coworker and friend from Colorado says he see's them all the time back home and would one up for me on his next trip. He returned empty handed, but in his defense knows nothing of hats or where to even buy one back home.

So any help is appreciated, or if this should be asked somewhere else please point me in the right direction. You may have to click on the pic to see it bigger

Illumin8em, that looks like the kind of straw you might find at a gift shop. I bet you could grab one inexpensively with similar proportions and form it just how you see it there. Looks nice.

I made an impulsive purchase on eBay yesterday, but the price was right and it had some sentimental value from my childhood. Biggest brim I think I've ever seen; the seller said it was over 4"!

Thanks Pard, I think this one will get worn a lot during hunting season this winter. It's a comfy, well broke in sombrero.

I've always been a fan of the Montana Peak. I've got an old surplus drill sgt hat. I've been toying with the idea of making one of my campdrafts into a peaked crease.

Is your's the Canadian Mountie version? It looks good.

Here are two "new" ones.

The green has some bad moth bites, but is a nice Bailey 5x.

The purple turned out much better than expected, in a midnight maroon/burgundy versus royal purple. It is a Resistol 4x.

The green hat is destined to someday be a bowler, maybe, after being turned inside out & re-blocked. That will require a proper flange, studying, brim iron, practice, and brim binding, more practice, so it is on the way-back burner.

The burgundy hat is intriguing and I'm not sure what I will do with it.

Suggestions? (Don't say pimp hat).

I'm still looking for an orange one in good quality felt, having passed on two before I thought of a good use for them.

The sombrero was not good. It is velour over cardboard rather than fur felt as I was assured, and will be returned.
