Dale, I think of you about every time I take these off of the shelf. One, because you always compliment me on them and 2, because you're an artist and some of the work I've seen of yours is very angular and done with a color palette that might not be everyone's first choice but the more you look at it, the more you begin to appreciate it. At least I do, Cuz.

I love the stitch pattern and colors but my eye was first drawn to them because the pattern seems to be abstract, without any sense of purpose until your eye settles on the fleur di lis in the middle of each shaft pattern. I have a pair or two with the fleur di lis all over them, I bet many of you do.

Absolutely fantastic! I really dig the variegated stitching and the red piping and pulls really put them over the top. I'd guess mid to late 50s on those, maybe very early 60s. Beautiful boots with a nice attitude about them.

I have a pair of (Mexican?) shorties that at first glance have that kind of stitching, but a closer inspection reveals it's really 3 rows of one red, one yellow, and one blue.

A new one on me too Dale. Maybe a Resistol jobber? Glad you like it.
Thanks Jack. If it is a Resistol product I'd love to get my hands on one of their own. This felt is paper thin, maybe half the weight and thickness of any of the Stetsons I own. The only hats I have that this compares too are a late 50s Borsalino and a 60s Cavanaugh. The Borsalino MIGHT be a little lighter, but this one has enough stiffener that it's hard to tell. It's got one of those little wind cords, too. Really takes the dressy aspect up a notch.

I did a little research this afternoon (That degree in history I earned back in the 80s finally paying off, I guess) and came up with a department store called Anthony's out of Oklahoma that was around from the 20s til the 90s. Maybe it's one of their's.

Very nice hat. There were a number of Anthony's stores in West Texas in the 50-70's that I remember.

That's a great hat Dale! We used to have a C.R. Anthony's in our Commercial Street district. It burned in the 1980s (and, ironically, caused the long serving Fire Station No. 2 next door to be condemned). Couldn't find a pic of the clothing store though. The Fire Station is now a wedding venue.

What a great profile and stitch pattern on your shorties, Dale. White piping on a boot always makes me think TX before Mexican.

I bought this Wrangler by Miller Bros. along with another last year. They both had a wired brim, meaning your pretty much stuck with the brim shape. These are both Montecristi's with this one being around 400 wpsi. I could never get the brim to do anything. I you've ever fooled with a wired brim you know every movement causes another somewhere else. I got frustrated and cut the wire out of this one. Thee 3 1/2 brim was floppy as could be so I applied a couple cots of shellac , ironed it flat and rolled the brim for some stability. A little too 60's tv maybe, but not quite Kenny Chesney. My first flat top inspired by Roy. This one retailed for $175, pretty high end for a Wrangler product. I did scuff it up some removing the wire.

The second Wrangler. This thing is a beast by Montecristi standards, 4 x 6 1/2. Retailed for $120 and is a much nicer hat in execution and weave at close to 600 wspi. I've got to do something with it if I'm going to wear it.

More rain on the way. The p/up pool will soon be open. Remember, always park with the bed downstream.

Greg what Stetson model is this one? The weave looks pretty darn nice. Is it vintage? Sure reminds me of my floppy/smashed panama. Love to see the insides.

Here you go. No model listed but OR type dimensions at 2 3/4 x 4 at the dip and 5 at the side. Pretty low for my bullet shaped head. It's a decent weave at close to 400 wpsi, I think. Looks a lot like yours. Judging by the innards probably no earlier than late 50's.

Spritz your hat well and sit it outside on a humid day until it absorbs the water then steam the $#!+ out of it to get it back to life. Take your time.

Wow!!
I can’t imagine a nicer, finer weave western to work with than this one.
It will be interesting what kinda Bama you put on it.

Ps: thanks for the tip on my wonky. I felt very fortunate to have gotten the original crush out of it with out destroying it and have just left it. Think i’ll follow your lead and work on the brim.
