After the war the B3 has become a riding jacket.

I find this fascinating because today motorized bicycle riders are obsessed (rightly so) with clothing that is tough enough to survive a mauling by Godzilla, but in ye olden dayes riders seem to wear just about anything, much of it not apparently very protective. I suspect that B3s, for example, though warm, would not have been very protective in a fall. I'm interested in hearing from out expert panel.

Those Vincent riders a few posts back-almost all of them in the photo are wearing well-worn Barbour and/or Belstaff waxed cotton jackets. Waxed cotton can get to looking like leather after it's worn.

First conscious memory that I have of really liking a leather jacket was when I watched a re-run of Edge of the city with John Cassavetes and Sidney Poitier. Still love this jacket.

Humphrey Bogart movie from 1938, "Racket Busters" has wonderful leather jackets. Viewed the first 15 minutes on TBS this morning before I had to leave for work. Saw a match to my railroad jacket, said to be purchased by 1st owner in Late 1930's.
