US Police Issue Leather Jackets

Greetings All,

I am a UK based leather jacket fan. I have a very nice Aero Highwayman in steerhide & am thinking of adding another jacket.
In general I'm too old for "biker" jackets (with offset zips & all that) & the wrong shape for A2 style "pilot" jackets.
On that basis I was thinking about the leather jackets worn by various police forces in the US, with the caveat that my knowledge is largely based on memories of "Hill Street Blues" as a kid.
Can anyone offer any advice, ideally with photos, on what to look for, where to look for it (bonus points for UK availability) & an idea of prices if possible.
For reference I'm 6'4" with a long back & a 54" chest.

Many Thanks,

Boyo

Check ebay for jackets made by "Taylors Leatherware" they made a jacket for the Chicago PD which I recall is similar to those worn on Hill street blues. ( or just search "Police leather jacket" something will pop up)

I see there is a 3xl available for $100 now.

Vintage NYPD jackets are more scarce and i don't think you'll find one in a size 54

Taylor's can be found here: https://taylorsleatherwear.com

Relatively inexpensive. I own (but will sadly have to sell as it's just a smidge too small for me) one of the Chicago police model. The leather is substantial without being armour-like. Fairly similar weight and hand to my 618 Schott Perfecto. It's not something people who rave over teacore and patina will get excited about, but if you like a comfortable, medium weight cowhide in a black that will stay black (I don't like my black leathers fading to brown, ymmv!). Assuming mine is typical of the brand, it's a well made jacket that feels like a workhorse. not the premium feel of the like of Aero's CHP jacket (https://www.aeroleatherclothing.com/mens/c-h-i-p-s-police-jacket/mto015 ), but certainly sturdy enough, and has the 'feel' if an issued jacket.

The Taylor's site is worth a browse for the sheer range of styles they provide. TBH, if I could get it without to zip-out liner feature and with exterior pockets, I'd be more than a little tempted by the NYC police coat.
