USPS Ground Advantage Gripes

Must be standard operation procedure, I ordered a Christmas gift for my wife and the package was shipped from the company in NY, for some reason the package was at a facility in Indiana North West of my house, the package was sent to Chicago, that is the second time that the package was shipped to Chicago, today the package is in Cincinnati OH, I might get the package tomorrow, or it could be in Chicago again.

We are all paying to fly it aimless around the country. Maybe that's why postage rates are so high.

We have used them at work. Once. That was all it took. Angry customers are just not worth saving a few dollars over. I've never understood why they provide tracking if it's not accurate at all. As a buyer, I try to just be patient when I see that's the method. But I'd never expect someone else to do the same with their purchase. Seems USPS has very little accountability. Imagine that huh.

First of all this trip was an errand for RogueWife, but as I waited an hour in line today, at the local USPS, I learned that this location has not had stamps for sale for at least the last two weeks...

I sent a package to a buyer in Guam via GA on 11/23. It just got delivered yesterday, LOL.

I was freaking out but the buyer knew it would take that long from experience.

Take a little time to do a search on the internet and also watch for some information on NewMax, I did a little research this morning and there are reports that there are some people working in the USPS that are stealing packages, personal and government checks. Chek out the news on NBC 7 San Diego, check this out:

It might be time to find another way to send your packages. Back on September 24, 2024 a package that I mailed out to a customer in CA, the package was lost on September 29, 2024, I contacted the USPS and asked for information on my package, they didn't have any answer, I ask for a missing mail search, they assigned a number to the lost mail file, 1 week later they listed it as closed, I contacted them again and told them the package was still missing, so they assigned a new number to the missing mail search. This continued until they upgraded the search for missing mail by giving the claim another number, by that time they had assigned 4 numbers to my missing mail, plus being elevated and the elevated number was suppose to make them look harder. I contacted my congressman and the Post Master General in DC and after 3 months the package was delivered. They do not get back to you about your lost package, you have to keep checking the progress by checking the tracking number and when you contact them you have to use the number that they assigned to your missing mail claim, the best way to contact the USPS is the 800 number and deal with the automated system, I repeatedly ask to talk to an agent about 10 times before their automation system put me on hold to talk to the next available agent, then if you are lucky you will get someone that speaks good clear English and that will actually do anything other than assign a new number to the missing mail claim. It is kind of like driving a spike into a log, you have to keep pounding it until the spike is driven into the log. It is up to you to keep after them until they do something, other than assign a new number to the lost mail claim.

I shipped out six hats via Priority Mail on Tuesday (to California, Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia, Wisconsin and Alabama) and they all left Cabool, Missouri only to show up in St. Paul, Minnesota on Friday. I stopped in the Post Office to ask why and they said that the sorting/ distribution center in Springfield, Missouri was overwhelmed so that truck was routed to the sorting facility in St. Paul. The hats are in or near their destination States this morning. At least it’s good to know that some of the apparent “crazy” routing is not totally random. Still sucks that Priority Mail is taking a week to arrive.

It is a good thing that you shipped Priority Mail, just think if you had shipped Ground Advantage you could be looking at a delivery 3 months from Tuesday to your customers.

Some do select Ground Advantage, but I usually cover the bump to Priority.

Well what ever method you choose to send your packages, you need to buy enough insurance to cover the package, contents and cost of shipping and be sure that you have the receipts to prove your claim and when you are dealing with any shipping company, I suggest that you be sure to put a copy of the shipping label inside the package with the item, that way if the package is opened by anyone they will know where the package is supposed to be delivered.
