Someone with knowledge please jump in, but, as we complain about the USPS, there is a lot we don't know. Every local USPS worker and retiree I know are upstanding members of the community and work tirelessly in the jobs. Also, USPS is unique in that it has to fund it's own retirement plans as well as bearing costs of which other federal agencies are exempt. IMO, the USPS is required to operate as a private, for-profit company within a second set of even more restrictive governmental rules and regulations. This, by the very nature of the organizational structure, makes the USPS set up to fail.

From my view point here in rural east Texas, the local USPS folks are great. They often go out of their way to get things here... even to the point of making two or three attempts on the same day to deliver a signature required package if I wasnt home.

The big distribution centers in Coppell and Dallas however just never have their act together. Was reading yesterday about how the Melissa Tx sorting center was shut down temporarily a week ago ( they are one of the places that Coppell sends their overflow sorting work.) Evidently (because its a smaller facility) they have been doing the sorting in the back lot under an un heated Canopy tent for over 2 years . With the recent cold snap it became a safety issue for the workers. Managements solution was to send all that work to the Anna Tx facility which it now all jammed up and backlogged ( I have a Stratoliner on the way which was stuck in Coppell for 14 days without moving before mis shipped from Coppell to Anna 16 days ago ( 50 miles in the wrong direction) Its been stuck there ever since. 30 days to deliver a box 125 miles ? Im afraid the USPS needs to be stripped of the sorting and distribution (contract it with someone like fed ex or Amazon) and pare them back to local delivery only. Might as well get rid of the entire management structure and start over while were at it

As a side note... I was reading the other day that almost 30% of the US mail volume currently is from the big Chinese sellers like Temu. Boatloads of cheap crap are basically overloading the whole system
