Thanks buddy. I did this one last year sometime so I'm thinking this may have been blocked on a cheap plastic straight sided dome block from hat shapers. I have a couple of wood #52s and a #51 but I rarely block on them anymore since I like these straight sided dome shapes much better.

I've been using them almost exclusively for the last few years and I haven't had any problems with them. Of course, being hollow plastic, you're going to have to take more care with them than you would with a vintage or custom wood block. With that said, mine has lasted me for about the last five years or so....and they're cheap in price and can easily be replaced. They're cheap enough to where you could even afford to buy a few of the same size at once and have them on hand just in case one breaks.

I was thinking they would be good for sizes outside the norm. Of the few hats I have made for customers they have all been 7 1/4 or 7 3/8....no outliers at all. Thank you!

Thanks Ed. This Picot I've had a while. Forgot I had it until I was looking for a Stevens straw and ran across this one. I stopped looking at that point.

Posting this because there’s way too few fedoras in the roundup . Beaver fifteen with a 2 1/2” cavanagh edge, depth is about 4 1/2” as it sits, probably around 5 1/2” open crown. By far the softest felt I’ve touched which is probably why I still have it considering it’s 1 1/2-2 sizes too large. The color is a light tan.

Stagecoach. This thing is my outdoor work hat and it's seen some action. First time out, about four years ago, we both went for a dive in a lake. It's been waterlogged so many times that I think it actually likes water. I throw it on when I need to work outside in the pouring rain. It fans fires, waters the dog on hikes, kills bugs, swats the chickens, hot pad to grab the coffee off the fire. It's held up really well considering. It still fits perfect and even a slight touch on the loose side which is nice. I threw a new sweatband in it a while back since the original was torn up and rotten. The felt is pretty soft and flexible for a western. I love this hat.

I wore this Resistol yesterday on the lake fishing and today at the beach to escape the heat. I’m surprised at how much sun this open weave blocks. It also has a faint smell of burlap that reminds me feed stores in of my childhood.

Resistol 3X that I completely reworked and restyled...the crown sports a Montana Pinch with a Mule Kick

Resistol 4X Beaver Cattleman in granite gray:

Resistol Chute 5 7X. It was NOS but missing the ribbon/band. I added a 1 1/2” prairie rattlesnake band. The open crown is 6” and the brim is 4 3/4” (I was expecting 5”?). Nice hand and dense felt, but it’s stiff as you would expect from a modern western:

Resistol Plains. Tag says 3” brim, but I measure it as 3 1/8 inches. 6” open crown and in wonderful condition: thin, dense, and smooth vintage western felt. It arrived with a dog bone crease with mule kicks front and back. However, it’s the kind of felt that will take most any crease you want to give it.

Acting on a hot tip from (who else?) @Bob Hufford, this little beauty hit my front porch last Friday.

Just at the edge of my comfort zone, the 2 1/4" raw edge brim, coupled with a 5 1/2"+ crown gives this 50s hat a look from an earlier era. Gorgeous chocolate color and the patented Kitten Finish round it out.
