Extra Extra Superiore “The Rollup.” 5 1/2” open crown, a full 3” bound brim, and a six cord ribbon. Size is a disappointing 5 1/2 or 7 1/4 US. The felt is very light and a moderate breeze will change the shape. I love everything about it other than the size.

This hat supposedly didn’t have a size tag (folded under the sweat) or a manufacturer’s label (right where i told them it should be). It was also listed as having an inside circumference of 23 1/2 inches. Nope, nope, and nope. :(

my newest hat and favorite so far. I'm not sure if this is faded black or dark dark blue. Is it normal that the brim doesn't snap? I am still looking to try a wider brim.

Nice soft malleable felt from the 50s with a wide brim. I was told that this was made for the American market. Pretty light weight hat with an un-reeded band, so I can't wear it when the trades are blowing. I'm pleased with it.

Ahh...you got it, Jonesy.
Good get.
Any chance of a pic of the tag behind the sweat for what model it is?
Very nice.

It is a beautiful hat and a great find, Brent. Pity that it just isn't the one for you. Should be easy enough to make someone happy with though.

European made hats tend to have less shellac in them and therefore have less snap than American made ones. This one is from the "traveller" line of Borsalino hats, I believe, and designed to roll up and carry with you. Stands to reason it wouldn't have much snap if it's designed to do that.

So, anybody want to translate this info?
Very cool find, Jonesy! It is indeed from the mid- to late fifties. It's one from their natural coloured hats; "avorio" meaning ivory (you probably looked that up already). What the model name Ta/Ludora means is anyone's guess. The jury is still out on the question if these model names have any meaning at all. The hats made for the American market usually have the same type of liner like this one has (just different colours). I have my doubts if the actual hats were all "superiore" quality though. Many of them probably were of higher quality designations originally.

I was thinking this is a traveling hat, it looks more casual than my caribou gray stenson.

Thank you for this information. I know so little about this genre, however I think that this is a pretty special hat. The proportions, crown height, brim size all just work for me. It is soft enough to dry crease, but seems to have a memory of how it wants to be shaped, so I let it be.
Let me know if anyone sees anymore old 7 1/2 Borsalinos out there, I'm hooked.
Peace,
David

Dang...that sure would make most people want to cry...thinking such a great looking hat is so small not to be able to fit. Even the ribbon work just screams a vintage look for those that like a thin ribbon hat....One lesson you need to do is from now on when buying online from a non Lounger, make the seller measure (even if you have to take a few pictures to show the seller HOW to measure)....I've done this many times and not just for hats...but now you have such a pretty small hat that is both small...and...pretty....LOL!

Just arrived: 6” open crown, 2 3/4” brim and a Cavanagh edge.

It’s definitely tight on me, but I’m keeping it. I’ll almost certainly have to wear it positioned differently from my “perfect fit” hats, but it’s close enough! I might even look into getting my head shrunk for this hat! ;)
It's a fabulous Borsa you've landed there, Brent. Congrats! The Cicogna colour on the ribbon is a first.

Oh no, that's way to small, you should definitely pass it on!
