The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Borsalino "Cocisca", French Point Size 5 1/2, 2.9 ounces / 83 grams probably early 1960s. This hat was sold by Mauerer Vienna so for the Austrian market. The felt is very light weight with a fantastic Chamois finish and interesting "Ramarro" Green color. If you look closely you can see a stitched brim binding most likely applied for stability + protection due to very light weigh felt.

They still knew how to make them in the 1960s! The fine detail of that brim stitching really floats my boat. The inside pictures of the color really makes it a rich green. What does Ramarro mean?

Mike, Thank you. I Googled "Ramarro Color" and one of the hits was "Verde Ramarro" which is Green Lizard (for example a Chameleon) so might be related.

Again: gorgeous hat, Steve. Never seen the colour or model before. That bow treatment is the cherry on top.

It's time for a new addition to this thread. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on the subject of Borsalinos, because I own quite a number of them, but this one kind of took me by surprise. It was on auction with a cattleman crease and flew under the radar because of a spelling mistake in the description. It made a pit-stop in Oregon at Mike's place and he gave it the thumbs up. He was not wrong.
Borsalino Thirty in Sfinge (Sfinx) colour. Model is called Ta/Ludora. Bound brim at 7cm and crown at 10,5 cm at the pinch. Felted ribbon. The open crown is quite substantial for a borsalino; open crown it had me looking like Hoss from Bonanza!
The felt on this one is incredible. It has a chamois like finish which is the best I've ever felt, bar none. Mid to late fifties. Sold for thirty dollars by Rothschilds; this was not a cheap hat.

It appears to be a Milan straw type. It's from the original Borsalino factory so pre early 1980s. There should be a paper label behind the sweatband (at the rear). If you can post a photo it would help with dating. My guess it's from the 1960s or 1970s.

Steve, thanks. I think you're right on the money that this is made for the American market. In its dimensions it resembles the Gorasgu model.

Things don't always work out as you'd like them to. Case in point is this one. Borsalino Suprema in the colour Morello. Listed as a 57, but actually a 58. Nice enough hat in a very dark brown colour, but just not my size. Bound brim at 5,5cm and crown at 10cm at the pinch. It shows some faint spots on the back of the brim (and one on the crown), which I could not brush out.
