The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

This Borsalino is branded G.B. Borsalino fu Lazzaro, but obviously it is a hat made in the 70's with a felt cone or with a hat which has the old label paper was torn

It is a "San Remo" sold outside Italy because it has the US size label

Color is "Dattero" and it seems made around the mid seventies

Very excellent finish with wind cord

The lining was sewn, therefore, belongs to the old production of Borsalino, but understand why it is branded with a mark died forty years ago is hard to say

Proportions are: brim at 5 cm. and crown, low point is 12 cm.

San Remo in gold embossed on the sweatband

This is the second hat showed that was part of my last find from a Milan collector P.D.

That colour and liner are special, too bad about the stingy brim.

This Borsalino was sold to me as a size 57. Turned out to be a 59. Originally had an overwelt edge, which I didn't like and took out. Now a 6 cm brim with a 10cm crown at the pinch. Nice thin felt and unusual colour (albino) with a lovely golden coloured liner. Gave it to
my brother.

This is a beautiful Borsalino. Like a Ferrari, looks racy just sitting there. Love the color in a big way. Nice.

Mike, thanks. It did bother me to let this one go and it took me a while to find hat with a similar colour untill I found a Habig two weeks ago that comes very close. I'll post that one soon.

But first this. It's a Borsalino homburg/lobbia in brown. Size 59 (6 punti) in the colour Dattero, ribbon Nadir. Brim 6 cm and 12 cm crown at the pinch. Even with Borsalino's always running a bit small and with some cork strips between the sweatband this does not fit me and looks oddly large on my head. I bought it anyway because it's rare to find homburgs in this colour. So I thought I'd be it's custodian. Judging by its label early fifties.

Here's a little challenge I have for the esteemed members of the lounge and the brothers of the Borsalino Brotherhood especially. There has been some discussion about how the names of the borsalinos don't make much sense. Well, I think that's not entirely true in some cases. Borsalino did make quite a few hats that (because of their colour) were named after metals. Shall we try and see how many we can come up with? I'll start of with this one. Borsalino Bismuto (Bismuth), size 59, brim 5,5 cm, brim 10,5 at the pinch.

And this one I posted here before, but just to keep the metals together: Borsalino Cobalto (Cobalt), size 57, brim 6 cm, 10,5 cm crown at the pinch. Underwelt edge and longhair finish.

I think those are color names and not model names.

Here is a photo from the Borsalino Factory January 12, 2016 visit. I believe these are Wind Cords. There is a "Bismuto" color available.

Ah... wonderful shot, Steve. If I were standing there I would ask someone for a meaning to "Monlov" (Uzbek for remorse, but have always come up empty in Italian). A Ludoela in Monlov rests atop the same style hat in Curdo in the photo below...

In Borsalino most of the name of colors are "old" italian words to define shades, some of them are in Piedmont dialect.
One question: where do you find in these days a hats factory, in great jewel, that still has the wind cords divided by color?
In Panizza factory they used name of plants growing in the lake Maggiore to define the colors

Sorrry, yes I was looking for colours, not model names (given that one up a while ago). That picture sure does help in making sense of some of the names I encountered on Borsalinos, but surely that's cheating, isn't it? And not all of the names of the metal colours are in there by the way.

Such a parade of superb Borsalinos. I never thought the Periodic Table of Elements would become useful in identifying hats.

Mike, thanks. I wish they made hats in all the colours of the metals in the Table, but I don't think so. I have some more, but I am curious what the other members come up with first though.
