I love evadress clothes!
My friend just came over this last week and showed me some basics on sewing, I was so glad it was a lot easier than what I had expected! even though I want to jump right in and do complicated outfits, I was told to start with kids clothes...at some thrift stores I've seen 30's and 40's outfit patterns for $.50. My oldest is getting into 40's attire right along with me, which should turn out to be fun once I get the hang of making clothes!

Wow, looks like we'll have to start a show and tell thread on Simplicity 3322, so many folks are making them! Seriously, I'd love to see how they turn out for everyone.

I'm in love with Mccall 4105 Decodoll, such a cute pattern (I'm a sucker for sailor outfits too).

I've wanted to copy a pattern that way Shimmy Sally, ever since I read an article on it in Threads. Was it difficult?

I'll post my results with the Retro pattern once I make them up--probably won't be until Fall at this rate though.

The only let down for me with the new Simplicity pattern is that there is no waistband. Otherwise, they are very cute.

That is disapointing. Do you think they altered the original from having a waist band to not? I just don't think skirts or trousers look vintage with out one.
I just got a nice cotton lawn skirt in the mail from Land's End. I was disapointed that it didn't have a waist band either. So I guess I will return the skirt.

I actually have a WWII-era skirt that does not have a waistband; instead, it is made of narrow gores, sewn in pairs with every other pair reversed (it gives the skirt a pleated look with minimal use of fabric.)

I don't know. It would be unusual for it to have been waistbandless, but not impossible, apparently.

So do I. They've been there since last year's Costume College. I can't even think about sewing anything other than cancan dresses until Worldcon is over, but then I hope to slow down my schedule for a LOT more sewing.

simplicity 3322

I have made three pairs of these overalls and LOVE all three, not to mention the slacks and the shirt that I've made. Suprisingly I also own a pair of the Revamp overalls from AnnaMarie and I get more complaments from GUYS on the Simplicity overalls vs Anna Maries.
Though just a hint on the shirt, I had to add a kickpleat to the back of the shirt so that I could have enough "movememt" space for dancing.

I'm currently trying to add a skirt to the bib on this pattern. Pitty my job wont let me wear overalls.

That buckle/gathering in the back looks scary to me. Not very flattering, and likely to come loose -- probably when company's over and you're serving cookies!

I'd eliminate it the extra fabric and do a side opening instead.

Oh yes....I have two patterns in the 'to be made' queue from the vpll...they are quite nice, using really heavy paper that seems like it would be great to work with.

Thats about all I can say at this stage of things. Oh and they ship super fast.
