I picked up a suitcase also this week with key. I cannot resist when I find a great one. Best things ever for storage.

I found this at the thrift shop for under $10. It had been painted a horrible shade of green and the knob has been replaced. I'm working on stripping it down to the bare wood so that I can re-finish it. I'm thinking something small and simple for the drawer pull.

Found this behind a dumpster.

It's a Philips Model no. 446 turntable. It's from sometime after 1956, though I wouldn't say too far after that date.

Dinerman You seem to have been really lucky with your finds lately, let's hope this continues. You'll never be able to pass a skip or bin without having a nose, it stays with you always.

I definitely can't resist a skip, I also started when I was a student.

A short story from many moons ago, my boyfriend who I met at college disappeared off one weekend to London and returned with the seat cover from a large 1930's leather chaise-long. I thought this was great, until he told me that the skip was also full of clothes, he said he couldn't carry it all so just came back with the leather. The clothes were Chanel!

Yesterday's Garage Sale Finds

Found a couple of nifty things at the garage sales yesterday - a 1937 Westclox "Pittsfield" electric clock and a set of hand made dominos from Cuba. The clock was filthy and the power cord was hopelessly cracked, but for a buck I took a chance on it. I took it apart, cleaned and oiled it, and replaced the cord. It now works perfectly and keeps good time.

My father and I purchased this antique cutlery box from the local flea-market about a month and a half ago, for $15.

We stripped off the varnish, sanded it, revarnished it and waxed it. We cleaned up the insides and then, I filled it up with our own cutlery. This is the result:

The box holds enough cutlery to serve eight people. The big white patch in the middle of the lid is supposed to be where eight big steak-knives go, but unfortunately, our knives are a mite too chunky to fit in there. So we're on the lookout for some which aren't quite so big in the handle.

Eight dessert-forks (doubled up).
Eight teaspoons/dessert spoons.
Two long serving teaspoons.

Missing are the eight steak-knives needed to make the box complete.

I'm thinking of going to pick this chair up tomorrow. Quite comfortable. I'm thinking '60s- anyone with a good idea of the age of it?

The color in the picture turned out kind of weird. It's a bit more burgundy than pictured.

Here's one I pulled out from behind a dumpster. It had been sitting there a while and was in bad shape. Scraped off all the old paint, sanded it down, pulled it apart and re-glued and nailed all the wood. Primed and painted. I'm not completely sure about the trim color. I'll see about that later.

I went and picked the chair up this morning. $15 bucks! It seems their recliners go for $60, armchairs for $40 or so, and dining room chairs for $15. Because this one was on legs, they marked it the same as the dining room chairs. How about that! Because it's so blocky and the legs screw off, it was incredibly easy to lug across town on a dolly. Here it is with my other chair, which I got a bit before Christmas. Now I just need to find a new apartment to put them in.

Any help on its age?
